Three bodies were discovered on Friday in Mexico’s Baja California state - the same place an American and two Australian tourists were reported missing earlier in the week.
Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson, aged 33 and 30, and American Carter Rhoad, 30, were last seen on April 27, according to the Baja California prosecutor's office. The trio was in Ensenada to surf - it's a hot spot for the sport.
Though authorities have not yet confirmed whether the located bodies were those of the three travelers, the remains were discovered by searchers looking specifically for them.

As Mexican, my recommendation is to don’t travel to México looking for adventure, you can visit touristic places that are well knew, but never ever remote places, it’s very unsafe 💔😢. I have 10 years without visit my country, my family, I’m so scared of what is happening there, I don’t want to risk my kids. Please plan very well your trip, and considerate the risks 😔

I’m a surfer who lives in SD and has been to Baja and TJ for years. It’s very easy for these people to forget… Mexico is a third world nation. No matter how much time you spend there, you are always taking a risk. Things can get ugly there real fast. Narcos don't want this kind of thing happening and bringing negative attention to their areas. THe idea of camping in such a remote area was a poor decision, you are better off surfing in the Ensenada area, probably safer and more protected since it is a heavily populated area, robberies, kidnapping etc are common in drug cartel areas, the guy from San Diego should have known this since S.D. is fairly close to Ensenada. This probably would NOT have happened in the Ensenada area which is fairly large, 350,000 residents; however locals have said it is not safe camping in "remote" areas such as "La Bocana"- where the bodies were found.; approximately 45 miles south of Ensenada, in the middle of nowhere.!!!

The only place I will vacation at these days are the countries with strict gun laws or known to be peaceful and secure by the nature of those who live there. Like Australia, the UK, Canada, Northern European countries like Norway, the Baltics, Western Europe (kind of), etc. You won't find me in the Middle East, obviously, not in Russia, China, India, or any Eurasian countries excluding perhaps Mongolia, Nepal and maybe Japan, not anywhere in Africa or South Africa (that place is super scary), nor in most Central and South American countries with a few exceptions like Costa Rica (they don't even have a military and the culture values family and children to a high degree), and, yes, even the USA. Haven't been there in 10 years and will never go back. I feel safer in Costa Rica than anywhere in the US. Even a stopover at LAX makes me nervous. The place is a hellhole. I might be convinced to visit Montana or even Maine, as close to Canada as possible and outside of any big city. Won't ever find me anywhere in Washington. Was there maybe 30 years ago but the place has gone downhill since. Moral of the story, before you vacation anywhere, check the local crime scene and the tourists crime stats before you go. And if you really want to be safer, go to a country with strict gun laws. The world has thousands of beautiful and safe vacationing places to choose from. Just go there.

Yep, the surfing community is a Global Community. Here at my little beach break in Jensen Beach, I talk to people up from Latin America, and no hassles. the water is free, the ocean owns us not we own the ocean. I worry that humanity is resolving difference or taking advantage of people in vulnerable situations with weapons. In Florida we have a very liberal right to conceal carry, too liberal, yet many feel int's necessary to be protected. I don't carry and I hope that I am not being naive. But we can try to protect ourselves with other means. Would they have been safe travelling in a group? Maybe four or five vehicles with 8-10 surfers? Would that be the answer to bringing weapons across the border? Not too many surfers want to start carrying that I know. We're not thinking about having to point a weapon at someone just to be "safe" in an area. I have not heard of places around the world with such problems. In the Summer, I do biking and hiking in Eastern Europe, and I may get hassled for money from begging Gypsies, but I have never been robbed or assaulted and I travel alone. But this will definitely put a Black Mark on Mexico. I have not travelled there, not that I don't want to, but in the back of my head, is the thought of the various cartels and gangs being active and I don't speak Spanish so being so limited in someone else's "turf" can be dangerous. Instead in the past I would go to the west coast of Puerto Rico for Winter surf. Never hassled or hurt there. And I would go alone, and just lock the rental car at a public parking lot on the beach. But I remember some other hassles, like the little place I stayed at, owned by Americans, had a local house next door that played local music on a system with speakers really loudly all day. Like the neighbors had problems so they just created this hostile noise environment. That's pretty petty. What's the point being hostile to people? But some people just have to be passive aggressive toward those they perceive as some kind of threat or some imposition on their 'turf". I would like humanity to be better than this. But we see all over, countries with such petty grievances leading to destructive wars, so where's the advanced civilization?

There was that ambush a few years ago, some Americans living there in a "farming" compound with many families, and some were driving on a back road, probably a road they know well, two or three SUV's with women and kids too. And they were attacked with assault weapons and killed. It looked like a Saturday night in eastern Ukraine or South Sudan. And the US media played it and the Whites here especially in places like Texas and Florida were ready to retaliate. I wonder if there will ever be an event that would cause Americans to produce a civilian force of maybe a few hundred or more armed and go across the border to find the gangs and pound them? Probably would end up being a disaster. But our weak government would not sanction an incursion against such an act of terrorism. We would instead send 250 thousand men to Iraq or Afghanistan, or keep special forces in Syria because we have regional partners there we have some treaty to protect their interests. Would the US ever go across the border with Mexico to strike at a Cartel town? There are politicians that would condone that type of action. But the Cartels are alive and well because the US buys their drugs. So, war would not stop the drug trade. Something else would need to happen to reduce demand in the US for drugs. Something like a more supportive society that treats drug addiction and homelessness with free medical clinics and small compounds of tiny individual shack communities that offer a clean and safe autonomous place off the street instead of cramped and dangerous shelters. I have heard that homeless people feel safer on the street than in shelters. For the amount of money the US spends on the Military, we could certainly afford to redirect money toward our domestic problems. The problems are getting worse and the Cartels and yes the Chinese Fentanyl cartels too are all to eager to sell America cheap and very deadly drugs. But we can hurt their business without carpet bombing some Mexican cartel town. We can spend that money fixing our domestic gaps, with better social services and alternatives to shelters or expensive private rental housing that is just getting insanely expensive.

I understand why everyone is concerned about safety and corruption in Mexico. If you consider the number of tourists that go to Mexico each year which is approximately 40 million pre pandemic the likely hood of having this type of situation happen to you is very very remote. Granted you have to be cautious where you go and the environment you are in but a good holiday experiance you definitely can have.

When English is your first language it's easier to understand when there's accent, but for me hard to understand because English is not my first language, so it's different. Try to understand Spanish spoken by a non native speaker would be harder for you than hearing from a native speaker, just think about it.

From what I've seen Mexico has exported most of their criminals to places like LA, NY, Seattle and other Dem cities and those American cities are far more dangerous to live in or visit. With the mass exodus of Mexico's criminals, if we give it another year, then Mexico might just be the safest place in the world to live or visit.
