They had been playing since 1970 - musicians from Scottish villages, united by their love for heavy prog. They performed and toured universities and rock clubs and had loyal, but few fans. There was very little money and the musicians suffered. The release of the album did not change the situation. As drummer Dick Sneddon recalls: “We recorded the album in one take. It was very cold in the studio, and we had to play as fast as possible to warm up. Our organist could easily play five organs at once.” And the families wanted to eat, there were no prospects in sight, and the musicians parted ways... Bodkin is the band's debut album. The album's sound is astounding, and it is surprising that this music passed its listeners by at that time, and the true talent of these musicians remained underestimated. All the music on the disc is created on the contradictory dialogue of heavy musical sounds of the guitar and virtuoso organ. The duration of individual pieces is compensated by the emotional and furious courage of the musicians. Of course, an experienced music lover can say that Bodkin's music is unremarkable and will be absolutely right, but! Don't forget that the team was one of the first, and there was simply no such music at that time!

WOW - What an amazing discovery - I absolutely love the heavy sound of this Band - Tremendous stuff - takes me back to the early 70's - incredible Hammond Organ and electrifying Guitar playing and superb Drumming - Prog Rock never got any better than this, so how come they remained unknown - Record companies and Promoters missed out big-time that's for sure - thanks a million for sharing this absolute masterpiece in Prog Rock.

I have been this album twice and West label's vinyl is very thick and sound quality is not completely bad but it could be also better. If I compare this to Complex's first album's vinyl sound quality which has also very thick vinyl, I mean original black Deroy label I have to say it is really poor. What comes to the music, Bodkin is one of the best private UK album. Very powerfull, awesome and mind blowing. This album works real fine from start to finish and the track Aunty Mary's Trashcan has one of the very best guitar sound what I've ever heard, it's stunning to my ears. This album has worth of every penny.

Группа BODKIN образовалась в Шотландии в 1970 году, когда музыканты из различных деревенек Шотландии решили объединиться и играть музыку, которая им нравилась. Несмотря на разницу в возрасте, они все разделяли любовь к прогрессивному року. До этого только барабанщик Дик Снеддон имел за своими плечами солидный опыт работы в музыкальном мире - он играл в различных бит-группах, выступал в Германии в знаменитом "Стар-клубе". Он присоединился к группе в последнюю очередь, когда BODKIN искали нового барабанщика. Наиболее памятным стал концерт в Колледже искусств в Абердине в 1971 году, где они играли вместе с WISHBONE ASH. Денег не было, однако количество поклонников росло, и это сподвигло группу принять участие в конкурсе молодых рок-групп Великобритании, проводимом журналом "The New Musical Express". Они легко прошли отборочные соревнования и вышли в финал конкурса со вторым результатом. Они были уверены, что выиграют. Однако в отличие от предварительного конкурса в финале вместо своих инструментов музыканты должны были играть на инструментах других фирм, поэтому группа не смогла показать свой уникальный саунд. i have played this album ,my mate had it ! ,sadly it was "weathered" as most vynll gets, and it was in the mid seventies then ,so who knows where it is now , maybe a flower pot or a coffee table, but getting back to the band , i would cut through to edinburgh ,at weekends to the "nash" ,the international club ,on princes st to listen to them ,i even got a poster and various drumsticks , they were amazing

I got the copy with the dayglo green sleeve in early 80's. Thought it was brilliant then and been looking for an original ever since. Saw one for sale about a year later for £400 I think, but thought it was too expensive. If only I had a time machine.

You can get a reprint for cheap, it's just the original only had 100 copies, and not all of them came with the artwork on the sleeve
