Body cam video released of Sacramento County hostage situation and fire where boy, 2, was rescued

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office has released body camera video of the hostage situation and fire along Madison Avenue from back in June.

All this happens and they just throw the kid into foster care to be forgot about , it just starts the same traumatic cycle the parents went through.

Idiots waited way too long to act.. Either move in from the start or move in later when there's smoke obscuring the situation and potential for the child to burn to death.. The only difference is that waiting complicates the situation ten fold.. An officer suggested they move in as soon as the fire started, but the captain told them to hold off.. Terrible decision, imo. The officer that wanted to move in right away was right..

I’m not in the shoes of these cops but it sure seems that their indecisiveness was contributing to the situations outcome. Glad the kid lived, should have left the dad in the tub.

That cop talking to this hostage HELPED absolutely ZERO!! It wasn't HIS fault. He tried his best, no doubt. But, after 5 minutes of making zero headway, I think they should've changed negotiators LONG BEFORE this got that far. Now mind you these guys are educated in these things, and know a 1,000 times more than I do, and I'm just a guy second guessing the video. IT just seems to me if one person isn't making ANY headway you try someone else. And them NOT going in there THE SECOND he started with the fire was just pure hesitation. I understand there is absolutely NO WAY you take the wife back in, because I think we all know why he wanted the wife back in there so she could watch what he actually wanted to do IN FRONT OF HER. Sick $h!t. Hats off the Fire Department, the 100% absolute Hero's of this whole thing. They MADE ACCESS, rescued the baby, AND got the attacker at of the apartment. What a top notch crew. Hold your heads up guys you all did your job to a T and saved that babies life.

Why hasn't a cop gone through the door on the right which goes through to the back? How dumb can these police be? Cowards were waiting until the fire was so bad, that fire department had to do the cops' jobs

Nancy, you’d tremble within minutes being in that situation yourself. He barricaded himself in the bathroom. The bathroom is NOWHERE near that room you’re talking about. Not to mention the guy would’ve heard them going into that room and it would’ve escalated the situation which is NOT what they were trying to do.

How? Where did they do a good job? The fire department had to come in, the cops could have snuck in to the right door in hallway, which went around to back room, and with that baby not making any noises-the cops should have went in instead of waiting for fire to get so bad

Being a ozzie and handy with a gun once I found out he only had a knife I would have rushed him as soon as I seen the fire , now there a mumbling fumbling mess and they let the situation get out of hand the cop that was talking to him the most had the right idea when he went to storm the room unfortunately his partners had there panties on and chose to sit back and let the fire spread ... pretty pathetic if you ask me , now the poor ladys house is trashed , the kid has been left in that situation way too long and is going to be traumatized for the rest of his life because a hand full of cops didn't have the balls to make a decision at that time while one of the cops is telling his partner to not go in there because the smoke is to thick and its "not worth it bro " pppffftt... if you are going to be a leader lead and make the tough calls which never happened in this case
