An actor suffering with body dysmorphia and OCD takes four hour showers and has spent $150,000 - and it’s ruining his life. Taking four-hour showers, wearing latex gloves and only eating from disposable plates - Stephen Fode’s battle with obsessive, compulsive disorder has been a “life long struggle.” The 49-year old also suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) - a psychological condition where the sufferer’s view of their appearance is so distorted they hate their looks and strive for perfection. To date, Stephen has spent over $150,000 on plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures and goes days without eating and he runs until the point of collapse.

Mr Malfoy...I take the sickeningly brutal annihilation of TWO THIRDS of the ENTIRE population of European Jewish citizens VERY seriously, & I don't think using Adolf Hitler's name...even in jest... for "fun," amusing...How would YOU feel if YOU were a Jew & had innocent ancestors that were STARVED/HUMILIATED, while losing ALL THEIR DIGNITY before being SLAUGHTERED & having their corpses just tossed aside in huge piles like garbage??? Even though you're probably a very decent man, If you were Jewish you'd surely take it more seriously...

Definitely see Steven Tyler with the slight simian features and his mouth/lips. This Stephen appeared to be good looking in his youth, but he sadly thought he needed the surgical work. I hope he won't get any other plastic work, since his image is now being accepted into the acting arena, as he is; "don't try to fix what's not broken". The therapist is helping him to mend what's mentally broken inside. Poor guy...I'm glad he's taking positive steps forward, so he can feel happiness.

Speaking as someone who's had OCD, social anxiety, and paranoia for about as long as I can remember, these things most definitely take over your life and make you hate yourself. Because it's in your head and other people don't know or understand, you feel like everyone resents you when you physically can't get yourself to do things. Or when you start panicking over things that are everyday things for other people. It's isolating and makes you feel incredibly alone and frustrated.

I had a slight problem with bdd back in high school. Because I was bullied in middle. I kept picking at the skin, checking myself in the mirror constantly, and I over plucked my eyebrows.. if I looked in the mirror and I felt ugly my whole day was ruined and I would avoid eye contact at all costs. That caused the panic attacks as well. I went to therapy and thankfully I was cured. Not cured but I didn't bother me anymore. I felt ugly back then, but I grew up(:

I have OCD and when I was a kid in elementary and middle school it was so bad i would have tantrums and so many other things and I wouldn't want to talk which was hard because I was super talkative and it's gotten so much better over the years but I'm also really scared cause I can feel it coming back :( this man is amazing for being able to live his life even with all the pain he's in. OCD for me was and is a mental and emotional hell. I'm 15 by the way.

I have an eating disorder (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) and a lot of it is caused by OCD. The basic things, like not being able to eat food a certain way, and my variety of foods I eat are limited to about 20 things (I will refuse to eat anything green, as well as things that touched anything green). The main things is that when my parents call me downstairs, I have to wait exactly 5 minutes before I go down, I will cut my right thigh and arm just to feel the pain because for some reason I want to feel more on my right side and not my left- it's kind of hard to explain and it's totally stupid. For the past 6 months I've been going to therapists and programs to treat my anxiety, OCD, and weight restoration. For anyone with OCD out there, do the things that go against your compulsion rituals, because you'll feel terrible for the next 40 minutes, but eventually you'll get better.

He said he's never heard of anyone who's gotten rid of their OCD. I'd say you just don't notice those people because they're of course not displaying symptoms. I had a pretty severe case of it as a kid and grew out of it luckily. There are stints when minor symptoms come back, but there are ways to knock it out. I don't know if I can really articulate too well what those methods are (I think I cope mostly subconsciously), but I _do_ know that obsessing over the problem is the worst thing. The second someone brings up my "tics" or I think about them, I start feeling the urge to indulge in them. My own (totally subjective) theory is that it's a vicious cycle that has to be halted at some point. Weirdly, I actually think that ignoring the problem in this case--pretending it doesn't exist and actively focusing your attention elsewhere--is part of the solution. This could be part of a therapy regimen--I'm not advising anyone not to seek medical help. But if they're not suggesting something resembling this method, I'd at least try it out.

It's true you will never truly remove OCD, I've tried many times. You can shake it, but it comes back. As it said in the video, the best way is to keep busy... OCD always is stronger in times of boredom or free time. I've lost years off of my life if you added up all the times I wasted doing the obsessions. I'd like to think it has positives, like many people with OCD have quicker reflexes I find, but its awful in every other sense.
