Another thing. With the exception of Bill Hurt every actor in this scene had within the last few years been on an NBC soap opera. As you pointed out Kathleen was on The Doctors. The attorney Miles was played by Michael Ryan who been killed off Another World as John Randolph the previous year. Lanna Saunders playing sister-in-law Roz was Marie Horton on Days of Our Lives. Ted Danson had been Tom Conway on Somerset and also had short roles on The Doctors too.

The whole scene is fascinating study. The little look she gives as the lawyer identifies the issue; she wants to know if Hurt knows what she's done in that moment. 3:48 - this is factually incorrect. It was not as if Walker died with "no will at all" like the lawyer states because there already was a will prior to the one Maddie forged. By law, the "new" will is invalidated which means the "old" one goes into effect, as if the "new" will never existed.
@abc3836able4 жыл бұрын
In Florida, a later-executed valid will or codicil will supersede any previous will. However this doesn't necessarily revoke the entire previous will. The probate court will attempt to reconcile the wills to the extent possible, and only sections of the previous will that cannot be reconciled with the new will will be considered revoked. The ultimate outcome may be a hybrid of the original will and the later will.

@resaboutb.95662 жыл бұрын
Of course she concocted it! She'd done her research to find the lousiest, possibly most unethical, attorney in FL and sought him out to seduce then convince him to help murder her husband. She knew all about the previous botched case. When she initially broached the topic of altering the will, he adamantly warned her not to mess with it, as it would conjure up unnecessary suspicion -- that she (they) would have all they needed without getting greedy. But he had no inkling of the extent of her greed.
@sueprice33152 жыл бұрын
@@resaboutb.9566 on other videos related to Body Heat, there are actually debates about whether she loved Ned! It's as you say, she sought him out because she needed someone who had a reputation for being inept AND that she could seduce and get to do her bidding. She totally duped him.
@onurbole7921 Жыл бұрын
There is no doubt about it, the entire plot is centered around her concoction. Ned is the exact lawyer who would make this kind of "mistake," that's why she seduced him. She had heard about him a year before he saw her, the botched case which had given him bad rep three years prior. So he was the fool she needed. In this scene Ned of course knows she set him up about the will, but he does not yet have doubts regarding her "love". After this meeting she apologizes about it, but claims she didn't know about the previous botched case which makes him look bad here, but temporarily dispels any suspicions about it being a planned thing.

Why would law schools want to promote this movie? The portrayal of lawyers is almost entirely negative. Ned appears sleazy from the very outset and allows his lust and greed to pull him into a murderous plot. Edmund Walker was a lawyer but quit his law practice to pursue business interests that he is very reluctant to talk about. In this video clip Miles Hardin seems to be a competent lawyer but confesses to trying to deceive a judge to enter Edmund Walker's revised will into probate.
