Hi, I'm Faye de Muyshondt of Socialskilz, here to teach you about body language basics. So many people say that your body speaks much more loudly than your words speak and it's probably...It has quite a bit of truth. It's really important that as you speak you exhibit great body language. The most important aspects of your body language are, number one, your shoulders and where your shoulders are positioned as you speak to other people. So, your shoulders could be like this or they could be like this, and that slight change makes an enormous difference in what your body is saying about you. This little change could make me seem like I'm insecure or don't have much confidence, but moving my shoulders up changes the entire dynamic of how I'm coming across.
Also, a really important part of your body language is your hands and what you're doing with your hands. Now, some people have a really hard time with what to do with their hands as they're speaking. If you have a hard time with it what I suggest is if you're sitting, just putting your hands in your lap or if you're standing just making sure that they're at your sides or folded in front of you. A lot of people have a hard time with playing with things, with playing with bracelets, with playing with hair, fumbling with their pockets. So, be aware as you speak next time of what your hands are doing. Where are your hands? Are they stationary? Or, you can ask someone else to make this assessment for you. Have a conversation with them and ask them to keep an eye on where your hands are during the conversation.
Another important element of your body language is the fact that you need to be standing still, so if you're moving during a conversation that's going to give off the impression that you're nervous or that you're uncomfortable during the conversation. So, be sure that you're standing stationary and that you're not moving around as you're talking. And, your feet, as you're talking, you don't want to be moving your feet around or lifting up your knee or moving your feet around. You want to make sure that those are stationary as well. The whole idea is that you don't want to distract someone while they're speaking or while you're speaking. Not only is it distracting, but it can make you come across as insecure, less than confident, or even uncomfortable during a conversation. You definitely don't want to give off that impression.
So, your body language speaks a great deal. You want to make sure that you have great body language as you're communicating and speaking with other people. It's probably one of the most important elements to making a good first impression.

THIS was SUCH a helpful video to share with everyone!! 1.Shoulders 2.Hands 3.DON'T PLAY WITH ANYTHING!! 4.Stand still during conversation Thank you so so much for sharing,and uploading this video with everyone. I think it would be a VERY good one for teachers to be sharing with students,for when they do their year 10 mock interviews,so that they therefore have a better understanding.

Don't fold your hands in an interview it is a sign of self comfort and anxiety. Hiding your palms shows you want to assert control over the situation. Concealing your hands suggests you have something to hide. Fidget or tap your fingures shows impatience. Folding your arms makes you look defensive and insecure. Showing your palms with tention in your wrist and frngures it shows truth, honesty and allegiance. Steepling displays confidence.

It's not being fake, if you project a good body image you're mind will follow
@mikki3208
@mikki3208 9 жыл бұрын
Your mind will follow, but it won't be genuine. I know this from personal experience. You can pretend you're something else all you want but your brain knows who you are and how you feel. So when your mind "follows" its more like a state where you mostly believe yourself when you tell yourself you're something you're not like happy or confident, but it's not the real thing. The real thing is a whole other feeling. I know this was probably meant to be a funny comment but I just didn't want people to think they can just tell their brains stuff and it will become true Xl

Micaila French There are a few things you can do to alter how you're perceived, though. Admittedly, it takes longer than a 5 minute video to delve deeper into body language and its effects on people's perception of you. And then there's vocal tonality, etc. It's actually quite complex and you can get rather good at convincing people, if you work at it. Thank god I'm in the business where I don't need these skills. I can just be rich and people will sense it from me. If I need pro-level PR, I'll just hire someone.
@mikki3208
@mikki3208 9 жыл бұрын
manictiger Oh I definitely know you can change how you're perceived. I'm way into that. I just didn't want anyone to go pretending they're something they're not all the time because that can end badly. I understand that there are instances where pretending is okay, but I'm talking about the bad instances.

How is all of this supposed to impact those of us with social anxiety disorders and those of us on the autism spectrum? We do a lot of the "don'ts" on a regular basis without realizing it, and even with the right attitude and treatment, the make-up of our brains and such is still there..
@mikki3208

I do try some of these, and other tricks in social situations, and I practice a lot with my family. However, even though I've been trying to 'fit in' socially with people for years, I still get overwhelmed if I don't a family member or my social worker with me. I have a long way to go, and I'll never be the person in the middle of the dance floor, but I'm confident that I will be able to lead my own social life one day. So yes, we can practice, but I am just saying that when you are on the autism spectrum, have social anxiety, or anything like that, sometimes that bar is set at a height that you can't move. Our brains are amazing, but if someone's brain works in different way, then that might limit them in ways that they can't control. Sorry for the long wall of text. I just wanted to reply correctly to you instead of you misunderstanding me. I hope you can take what I said and try to think of from that point of view maybe. Thanks for your time. :)
