Just because he sings "I" or "me" it doesn´t mean that he relates to himself as the writer. In his lyrics Till personalizes a lot of different types and characters.

Let's not forget this is a custom made video. And yes he's talking pro gay people and sadly how they being treated/ excluded in some societies by being called ugly names. Rammstein are great social commentators as well as great musicians. As others have said, it's a protest song against homophobia. When he screams "Schwule" it isn't slander, he's relaying the lived experience of many, many gay men. Sexual orientation isn't a personal choice, it's written into a person's genetic code. I know you said that it doesn't bother you, but your physical reactions said the contrary, but that's entirely up to you. Some people aren't comfortable with scenes such as those in the video, they don't bother me in the slightest Again, it's a protest against homophobia rather than a declaration of personal sexuality. Till is a father of two girls and he's a grandfather. He has said that he's explored other aspects of sexual activity and that's his choice. Richard Kruspe has described Till as an extreme person and that may be a fair comment. One thing to keep in mind is that Rammstein never record or release any music or videos (this one is a custom video rather than the official video where the band play ostensibly in the nude apart from Till) without full band agreement. They make powerful statements and should be applauded for that.

true, multi means in each phrase.its not easy to translate the means in other languages.take the phrase 'meine haut gehört den herren / my skin belongs to the gentlemen'. in german, you can speak 'herren = men/gentlemen/male'. but 'herrn' is also commen, wich can be unterstand as 'lord/male in authority'. that bring a twist in meaning as a suffered under pressure. combine it with the foĺlowing 'diener/servant' and you come out with a bit of agony to a natural way of sexual oriantation... agree, the song comes completly out of the view if a gay man and his experience in socity. strong statement for tolerance!

When he says " mein Herz friert an manchen Tagen, kalte Zungen die da schlagen" he means his heart freezes somedays (he feels bad) because he gets insulted by the cold tongues (other people) so yes this is entirely a anti homophobic song and tries to show that it is still not accepted today when it should not be a problem at all

You really should check out the official video...its very brave. For any man, being ok w homosexual themes is just being an evolved human being. And it's decent. Don't we all, worldwide, need more decency? And to correct something you said in your reaction...being gay is NOT a "personal choice"... you're simply born that way. Its genetic science...males get the gene sequence from their mothers and females from their fathers. I am a bisexual woman, who knew when I was just 11 yrs old. I certainly didn't *choose*, I was just born this way.

There are two wordplays in this song: 'Glied' has a double meaning as someone else already pointed out. It can mean both link and penis. The other one is in the line 'Kalte Zungen, die da schlagen'. Germans normally don't use the word 'schlagen' (beat) in conjunction with 'Zunge'. But we do have the word 'Zungenschlag' (lit. tongue beat) which means accent.

I think Till has experience with both sexes (just a guess). But mainly he likes women. The translation of "In meiner Kette fehlt kein Glied" with "No link is missing in my chain" no longer reflects the ambiguity of the word "Glied". The link in the chain can also be understood as a penis. It is interesting that in the official lyrics at the end the line "Mann gegen Mann" becomes "Mann gaygen Mann".

The song is about the struggles of being a gay man. - my gender calls me a traitor As in how many heterosexual men look down on gay men and often see them as effeminate and deem them "less of a man" for being gay. - I am the nightmare of all fathers Again the idea that a father would be undomfortable with a gay son, with echoes of that "youre not a man" idea. - cold tongues that beat there... f-slur (I am not comfortable typing that word out) The cold tongues being like emotionally cold. People who berate gay men for their sexuality and call them the f-slur. I think aside from being straight up (hah) a banger, this song talks about a very VERY important topic! And I just love how the band always has these messages in their music and lyrics. Also no matter their sexuality, I am glad this song exists as it sheds light on what is still a prevalent issue in the world. Also if Im not completely blanking this song should be on the album called "Liebe is für alle da" literally "love is for everyone" which only adds to the message of course. Overall one of my favourite Rammstein songs. Also just to be clear. I dont know whether Till is straight. I assume he is since his knows partners have been women. Of course that doesnt mean he isnt bi or any other non straight orientation, but it really doesnt matter too much. The topic is important still and just because he sings about it doesnt mean its a reflection of himself.

I know this is an old video, sorry but to my understanding the phrase "cold tongues that beat there" and the f word are linked, he's not changing his stance, the song criticizes these cold tongues that point at "him" (the person he's impersoning) with that word, despite the person making it clear what he likes and defending it. It's clearly a song against homophobia and they've had their stances against it many times. Members of the band have kissed on stage, and they even posted a picture of the drummer holding the rainbow flag on their official instagram once. Still a rare sight seeing grown up men shocked by two men kissing haha, wasn't expecting that.

No, your pronunciation "Mann gegen Mann" was pretty accurate. There is a double meaning with "Glied". "Glied" can mean part of a chain in german, but it is also a word for the male sexual organ as well. Rammstein is a band which is singing about topics no other bands is doing that direct.

Till is Lind sexual. Who the hell knows honestly, but he has publicly dated women. If he is with men it's on the DL but I'm no insider obviously, I just did a superficial search on Google. Till sings from various external perspectives though so it's no surprise he'd write from the POV of a gay man like in mein teil where he's expressing Armin's possible perspective/thoughts/desires (the guy who ate that other guy... with his reluctant consent after the shame of cheating on his bf made him feel immense suicidal shame) He is expressing the homophobia and overall disgust felt by society, especially back in 2005. I mean it wasn't as bad as the 50s obviously but you could still gay bash and probably face minimal consequence. There was an enormous political push for gay marriage in the early 2000s which was controversial bc that would officially equate homosexual couples to hetero ones when generally speaking the dynamics of the marriages are different (biological children production, you know reproduction, yes gay couples can adopt or use a surrogate, legally it makes sense honestly, gays shouldn't be denied the same rights straights enjoy, if you find marriage enjoyable...
