Well hello there mister side control isn't the third most dominant position close enough but it's knee on belly, which you could say is a side control variation but is actually quite different, and the reason we teach close guard which is the fourth most dominant position to new comers before the rest is because it's the most versatile to learn the different sweeps, locks and submissions without getting tired too quickly and while perfectly seeing what you and your opponents are doing to get a grasp of bjj movements and weight distribution concepts. Anyway get that guy into a real gym with a program director ! I know it's just for fun but he's missing out on many valuable principles and details that makes all the magic of bjj.
@abikhan3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate your comment. It’s complete interpretation as to which would be the most dominant. If an athlete is particularly good at side control then wouldn’t be more dominant than another. Nothing wrong of course with what your saying but it is subjective. Every athlete has their opinion, techniques which is what makes any sport so magical in itself

Appreciate you watching the Vlog mate. The not tapping was on me not John. I didn’t want to lose haha before the Vlog was shot we went through lots of safety protocols but if we showed them the Vlog would have been 1-1.5 hours long. Elbow was absolutely fine

This is an awful representation of bjj. He shouldn't be doing flying triangles on you (this can invert and break your knees, you're lucky you have good stabilizers from your weightlifting background) and trying to Americana you when you have no familiarity of pain threshold before ligament damage. The game should have been: Who can get a dominant position; reset. I would have expected more from a purple belt. It's a damn shame he injured you like that - despite being your good friend. - Also, the person being mounted has more than just arms to fight. He has the hips, legs and arms; and the varying techniques that incorporate them.
@abikhan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your opinion CS. What you didn't see is the behind the scenes of John walking me through the movement and exactly how to fall safely. We did trial runs to make sure we pulled it off correctly and then of course did the movement. There's alot of planning that goes into combat style vlogs before they are shot.
@abikhan3 жыл бұрын
To give context the whole point was to teach someone with no self defence experience 'a way' not the only way but a simple way to escape. I'm sure you have extensive experience in the martial art so you can appreciate that from time to time something will go wrong no matter the precautions you take. Looking on a more positive note which is what this channel is all about, I've had 4 friends take their young girls to start jiu jitsu / self defence classes from this vlog, which is the outcome I wanted.
@alrey15383 жыл бұрын
I actually thought it was a really good representation of Jiujitsu (BJJ). Abi is obviously in really good shape and a lot heavier/stronger. The Purple belt seemed very knowledgeable about the self-defense and competition aspects of the art. That pop 6:58, though; probably could have been avoided…don’t know if Abi was taught about “tapping” to prevent getting injured.
@abikhan3 жыл бұрын
@@alrey1538 Appreciate comment and viewpoint. You understood what we wanted to achieve. The 'pop' was 100% my fault, I should have tapped way sooner but to be honest I didn't want to. I thought I could fight my way out haha, clearly mistaken. It's easy enough to pick at what went 'wrong' but tell any athlete in a competitive sport to 'give up' it's not going to happen. Glad you enjoyed Al!
@dktcs3 жыл бұрын
definitely could be avoided... he shouldn't have done that armbar.. he could just play with you from that position showing the power of bjj, i'm sorry he showed to you that way.. besides that you did 'trials' that was horrible demonstration, i'm sorry but i had to say that, and sorry for bad english, i'm a brazilian, purple belt and have been training for almost 10 years.. i know what i'm talking about.. cheers and be careful
