12 years ago...It's been 12 years since I seen this and started my journey.. I've been injured. Had surgeries... loss relationships, stop boxing, loss almost all my strength and health..even hair..... And suddenly bounced back, I'm blessed to say it is all coming back.... now 12 years into today... I'm grinding again like it's 12 years ago. But with too much knowledge at my disposal..This is full circle. This is your journey, This. Is bodybuilding. Dont quit!

wxaviere1 wow, I was literally about to comment this same sort of thing. I use to box and after watching this when I was 13 back in 2008 I started my journey into becoming in shape. I had 3 kids along the way, heartbreaks, job changes, life’s challenges, now as i started training full on 1 1/2 years ago to get back into it, the pandemic happens and shuts down all the gyms. 2 months no gym and watching this gives me the fire to attack the gym just like the beginning 12 years ago.

Back then they had size and aesthetics. They actually look like they could chase you down and fck you up, unlike today's, where they can even run a 100m sprint
@MrOffguts
@MrOffguts 10 жыл бұрын
Ill agree with you on the fact that they looked more aesthetic back then but thats only because bodybuilding has evolved. Trust me just because they are more bulky doesnt make them slow.
@zxtenn

Scott W Possibly not in a sprint but when Arnold and Franco were around they RAN on the beach, now cardio is walking at 2 mph for 10-15 minutes- Nearly impossible for anyone to train successfully in opposing sports such as cycling and BB, people need to choose what they like or what sport suits them

todays body builders are bound to be bigger than they used to be as it is in human nature to strive to be the best. I mean the guys in this video are working so hard because in their life its survival of the fittest, the biggest and the best so yeah all in all i congratulate these guys on the video for being so determined to be the person they want to be :) great video :)

I think that the bodybuilders of yesterday looked thike the heroes of the tale, you know like superman or hercules. While the bodybiulders of tody look a bit like the villains of the tale, like Bane or Hulk. (Now this is just to get a picture. I know that Ronnie Coleman is the nicest guy.)

Things have changed alright. Arnold and Columbu were kings. These guys today just have better drugs. Bigger isn't necessarily better.
@slavatko
@slavatko 10 жыл бұрын
Arnold was the king, I agree. But Franco was never even close to it. He won only 2 times thanks to Arnold's retiring and lack of competition. It is like Klitshko who refused to fight strong figters but still call themselves the best boxers who ever lived on the planet. Franco is one of the most disproportionate bodybuilders the world has seen.
@zxtenn
@zxtenn 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, the main reason they are bigger is drugs not harder training- Some guys now weigh close to 300 and its from a few new drugs but look what happens to some of them- dead or they need to stop then look like the guy a the corner store. I think its fair to say that in MOST cases the old schools did more with less but you still need BLESSED genes regardless, I knew a guy who placed 3rd a few times in Mr. America a few times, he admitted it was his peak, after a while you reach your bodies limit with or without drugs Franco was on the worlds strongest men and did very well considering he was less than 200 lbs- Like anything HEIGHT plays a big role, not saying Arnold won because of height but if all are the same usually the tallest guy wins-I went to a Dickerson MANY years ago and he said a short guy needs to be better to make things equal- like any sport there is only 1 winner but its the journey that makes it worth while 2:24 you know the King is working for those 22 inch synthol free arms

@Ragekoolaid I like the description you offered here of how you boost your capacity at the end of a set. Intense exercise is more than the physical repetition of a movement --it takes the ability to tap into the depths of one's mind and spirit, and clearly you've managed to do that.

One thing that you have to take note of is that during the on season (new bodybuilders), these guys have specific diets to make their muscles swell and make their veins pop more. During the off season, they guys look significantly smaller. I'm willing to bet that most of these pictures are during times of the on season.

@GangstaKul I agree, if you want to go to this level, no natural builder can achieve it.. Sad but true, this here is a form of building that requires extreme sacrifice ( side effects of steroids ) They arent casual Gym Bunnies. Roids are a must if THIS is something someone wants to achieve. Arnie is still and always will be the best ever. I will cry a bucket if he dies, a true legend, a really nice guy, a amazing personality, a role model for all of us disciplined builders.

I personally had my months of cycling diff anabols back in the 80's for 2 years. I had the chance to move to GH and other muscle producers but I choose not. I'm the hight of Franco and would of been tough competing against the likes of Shawn Ray, Paul DeMayo, Eddie Robinson, who had the time and $ to dedicate. My hats off to pro-bodybuilders you are my brothers of past, it was a great time. It was and is still a part of my life - it's in my blood, not pun intended.

i absolutely agree with you about that. now body weight exercises, (pushups pullups etc), those are useful. the way you will be able to move around, coordinated body,as well as finely toned. also for parkour if you know what that is. weightlifting is for...lifting weights...wow. I like Arnold, but i doubt him or any other body builder can do a quarter of what those Olympic athletes do for mens gymnastics. those muscles aren't just for show, you saw what they are capable of.

I never understood how everyone dismisses this as a sport when it takes pretty much complete 24/7 discipline just to compete. There's no real off-season unlike other sports. And the argument about these guys being on steroids, but nobody ever mentions it as a negative in any other sport, even though they're used everywhere.

@EPIK562 Thanks. I'm a six foot 3 ectomorphic guy with long arms and legs so I'm shooting to compete at 240 or 250 which means that I might go above that during off season. I take creatine and a mass gainer so yes, I am competing naturally. 30 lbs of muscle is alot more noticable on a shorter guy where on me, I't might not be so apparent. That's why I'm aiming so high.

I'm a med school student and I can tell you with 100 percent confidence, that even though it's obvious that these guys are injecting anabolic steroids, they HAVE to work out extremely hard to sustain that new muscle growth. They might have an added edge with the steroids, but steroids aren't enough to have the kind of physique they carry. It takes very hard work and a lot of time in the gym, along with strict nutrition to look like these guys.

Honestly i use to think they looked better in the 60's and 70's but now i realize that there are to many things missing on their bodies and I feel like most people can easily achieve a body similar to the old school bodybuilders in 5-10years of training. You dont become a professional bodybuilder to look nice and aesthetic YOU GO PRO TO BE THE BIGGEST PERFECTED MASS OF MUSCLE YOU CAN BE. legs back arms chest abs shoulders everything is huge on these guys bravo get bigger!

Today's bodybuilders are all about sheer size and mass, the freakier the better and the amount of steroids and GH they have to take is scary. The classical bodybuilders were the best and most inspirational . They still did use steroids sure but compared to the amount used by today's bodybuilders it's barely worth mentioning.

For those of you who don't know...Bodybuilding is called that because your literally building your body to its maximum potential and keeping everything symmetrical. It's bodybuilding...Not pretty boy competition. If your looking for that, then go to the mall and look at the little boys posing on the billboards of every clothing company and stop wasting your time here with the big guys. The pros now make arnold and the gang look like babies.

One of the obsessive-compulsive disorders some body builder types suffer from is called muscle dysmorphia, the opposite of very skinny people thinking they are too fat. This is a mental disorder mostly effecting men that obsess about being too small, frail and undeveloped when they already have massive muscles. No matter how big they get they still feel inadequate. This often leads to a preoccupation with weight training, complusive eating to gain mass and frequent mirror gazing.

My concern is what's going on INSIDE these modern bodybuilder's bodies. It is one thing to workout (I do, have been for over 20 years) and I'm in decent shape, but you got to know where you crossed the line. Clearly a lot of today's performers are beyond enjoying a sport and have been overtaken by an obsession and no matter how big they get, they're aren't big enough.

Comment part 3: But the bodybuilder, even without using his full potential, can be really strong as well. But of course, the Shaolin monk haves way more qualities (still depends the individuals), like: technique, speed, bone density, pain tolerance (bodybuilders also have good pain tolerance, but I don't think you can compare), and probably much more. But you simply can't compare a bodybuilder and a Shaolin monk, because their purpose is very far from similar.

The sport has changed since Arnold's time. Back then thinks like symmetry, balance, good posing were important. Now all that seems to matter is how big you are. I'd swear some of today's guys are so top heavy if caught outside on a windy day they would tip over. ;-)
