Retired farmer from Indiana here. I can remember back in the late 70s when we had a terrible wind storm and our field corn was blown so flat that we were forced to use grain heads on all 3 of our 7700 combines. It was widespread too. That was a nightmare...Crop Ins. didn't exist back then just yet. It's a wonder that we ever survived.

Jacob, fantastic video on your replaced unit system from May. Looks great. Always like the stories you tell during the video. I hope you and your dad have a nice Merry Christmas. Skip, Western PA

I spent a lot of hrs on one of those in early 80's. For some reason I still have a set of knives and paddles for it.

How can I get ahold of you about the knives and paddles?

Getting what you can out of something is always better than nothing and get some of the grass seeds is also a win

Personally I would mowed it down with a dicbine and used a pickup header on the silage chopper to get it up but that straight cut is doing a hell of a good job straight cutting that sweet corn

The important question is, how's your dad like his "new" chopper?

He likes it. The working reverser is the best part.

We did that one year. Had some field corn that got blown over. The ins. Zeroed it out so we cut it the same way. Then turned the cows out on it

How high can a direct cut head take in material? I've been wondering how to harvest a plant that can regrow fast if some is left. Buckwheat, for instance, can put out new leaves and flowers quick if left a foot tall.

I'd say you could get a foot out of it. It doesn't lift very high unfortunately.

We used the direct cut head in the 80’s when it was a drought and the herbicide was not as effective
