And while I am happy that Surinamese singers are getting more international exposure by collaborating with established Trinidad singers, I hope they keep the originality and cultural purity of their songs. Fusion of Baithak Gana with other genres is inevitable, but Surinamese singers, like Shivam, Dewindersingh, Sandeep Badloe have their own niche which they should not lose in favor of westernized chutney opopularized by the legend Sundar Popo or chutney soca innovated by the Queen Drupatee.
