Thank you for that sensible comment, you make a very pertinent point. You're totally correct, there is a multitude of components that make up the workings of a plane. In the interests of safety, only a maintenance person should be doing this work.

As far as I'm concerned it's something of a moot point i.e. that pilots should be doing these 'walkarounds'; their job is to fly the planes, not be doing external checks, that should be done by maintenance people. I'd question the safety aspect of this practice.

Not sure why you would question the safety aspect of this, as a pilot I would much rather do a walk around my self to know the condition of the airplane im about to fly instead of relying on someone else to tell me what it looks like
