I love watching that wing flexion. No matter how scary it may look it's safe. Not forgeting it's always a beautiful day...above the clouds.

It always amazes me that those engines can stay on the wing of a 747 with as much thrust as they have and the way the move around and flex. Its like they want to fly off. Great sound though wish I could loop it into an audio and go to sleep to it with headphones on. It makes me dream of traveling. :-)

I know this is from ‘07 but love it. I never got to ride on the grand old 747 but I love longer take off rolls. I flew last month on a 319 and 737 respectively and it had to be less than 30 second take off roll. Also these newer engines don’t feature that air conditioner compressor sound. Nice to hear that once in awhile.

Each of the 747's engines weigh around 5 tonnes. Add a full fuel load to that and it kinda makes you wonder how the wings withstand that kind of stress. Hats off to technology !!!

I flew a 747 to Singapore and I recall there was a tad more room then most smaller commercial jets. It wasn't luxury, but it wasn't bad either. Just be sure to get up and move around every so often, bring a good book and some music.

Actually the slats retract to prevent damage to them from anything kicked up by the reversers. This is an option that an airline could order. I think most carriers of the 400 went with it but you'll see a lot of older 747 classics without the option.
@jetfreak416 жыл бұрын
The 747-400 is a pretty amazing airplane. You would expect an airplane of that size to not be able to climb very rapidly given how much momentum it needs to build up to reach takeoff speed on the runway...but once it's off the ground the thing climbs like a rocket. The earlier 747 models do not climb as rapidly probably because their wingspans are not as great as the -400 and the early 747 wing is structurally heavier than the -400.

Do the flaps on the 747 retract automatically when the plane reaches a certain air speed?
@tannagra14 жыл бұрын
@EndL1ch Hi Its called ' climb power', it can be carried out by the pilot, or by the flight management system linked to the auto-throttle. There's normally whats called an acceleration altitude where the aircraft starts to speed up, raise flaps etc.
@PilotKriss11 жыл бұрын
Think of it as a car...You don't keep the accelerator pedal to the floor all of the time haha. The 'Auto-throttle' is in control of the thrust during pretty much all stages of flight. On takeoff it is set to "Takeoff Go-Around (TOGA)". This is activated at around 0:06 seconds in the video. Then it is switched to "Climb Thrust (CLB)" at around 1:28. This is done as the aircraft no longer needs full power (and it reduces wear & tear on the engines). It is all for efficiency.

A 747-400 has six million parts, half of which are fasteners. A 747-400 has 171 miles (274 km) of wiring and 5 miles (8 km) of tubing. A 747-400 consists of 147,000 pounds (66,150 kg) of high-strength aluminum. The 747-400 has 16 main landing gear tires and two nose landing gear tires. The 747-400 tail height is 63 feet 8 inches (19.4 m), equivalent to a six-story building...

i am not positive on this, but i think those engines are particularly loud because they are rolls royce. they have a particular sound to them. 747 use rolls, ge, or p&w, depending on where the plane is from usually.
