The following remarks and a question pls. I did not see radio altimeter activated which is your major instrument to have an eye on together with vs rate of descent. , all airports are not close to sea with 0 ft elevation. This was not taken in consideration. Because radio altimeter was not activated and you did not have with right Alt + click on pfd the organ minimized on screen. Touch down was good though and centered with bad visibility. My question: where is the ils display, the two pink lines I mean that become one I did not see this and actually that is why I watched your interesting video. In 747 and 767 there is a knob as you may know that shows something like map vor ils GPS display and you select. Thank you well done.
@thecorporatepilotdad2 жыл бұрын
Radar altimeter is only required on CAT II and III ILS approaches. If doing a CAT I ILS approach, minimums are derived from a barometric altitude read off the altimeter and not the RA. The LOC and GS are the pink diamonds (GS and LOC deviation indicators are their proper names) on the primary flight display directly in front of the pilot. They are on the right side of the attitude indicator (GS) and below it (Localizer).

Thanks for the great video. Can you explain the difference between lnav and vnav in autopilot? And also the difference between Loc button and approach button in b787 autopilot? I've read in a lot of site but still got confused, maybe you can the simple explanation, thanks.
@thecorporatepilotdad4 жыл бұрын
LNAV - Lateral naviation - left and right course only. VNAV - Vertical Navigation - used when you want to observe altitudes i.e. an arrival or an approach with multiple crossing altitudes. Currently, VNAV does not work correctly in FS2020. IRL, you set the bottom altitude, press VNAV, and monitor the AP. From that point, the AP will meet crossing restrictions/altitudes. There is more to it than that, but that's the basics of it. LOC button - will intercept the localizer (left right guidance on a Localizer approach. APPR - will intercept a Glide Slope on an ILS or a Gide Path on an GPS approach. APPR is the same as LOC but it will also fly a GP or GS once it intercepts either or. Did that help?
@ejoh4244 жыл бұрын
Thank you ! Is it true that we can only use the loc and appr on approach? Because i press the loc on autopilot during cruise (with flight plan), and it looks like its doing the autopilot the same as when i press lnav (althought i experienced speed and altitude become unstable).

Slang on a flight deck is not good. Not everyone will understand it. I flew with a guy that use to say “Dangle the Dunlop’s” 🤪 🛫 very nice job on the videos. Auto spoilers and auto brakes should work too. But maybe not in the sim yet as it does have some bugs as you have pointed.keep up the good work.

I've been to flight safety many times and that is where I picked that up. I appreciate the correction. Previous flight sims had autospoilers. I'm not sure if this one does. There are so many bugs in this sim. My biggest pet peeve is the winds aloft are always 3 knots and surface winds never match the ATIS/ASOS.

For some reason, I can't get the jet to release ALT HOLD when the GS is centered and therefore I don't get an automated descent. Any thoughts as to why that would happen? Great Video!!
@jaybeckman37494 жыл бұрын
So a follow up: I discovered that if you use a few hundred feet of Down VS at the point where you should capture the GS, the jet will track the GS. But I do not think this is correct behavior, is it? Shouldn’t the ALT Hold just release on its own and the jet start the descent without being “tickled” with VS?

It should capture the GS when intercepted with APPR armed. I have had the same issue since the update in the 787. It goes from GS to VS to ALT in about a half second when it should capture and fly the GS down. Try it in a smaller airplane and see if it does it too.

I can't seem to get LNAV or HDG Hold or HDG Select to engage - nothing just a slow spiral to the right increasing - does yaw damper need to be on for the flt director to capture? Any lateral mode does not engage although the PFD shows each mode is enabled - I do not seem to have this issue with the 747 or any of the other default AC. Salty mod for 747 works fine. The 787 mod also works, but does not correct AP. Tried removing all mods and still nothing. Hand-flying is okay and the jet has a realistic heavy feel but I cannot get AP to work. If anyone has ideas - let me know - thanks!
@thecorporatepilotdad3 жыл бұрын
The flight director should be on and that’s what the AP follows. Yaw damper does not have to be on. That just applies rudder in turns and in turbulence to keep the airplane coordinated. Did you have that problem before the last update?

Great video! For some reason, Loc and ILS dont work for me anymore. Not on the A320, 787, or 747. They never intercept the loc. Doesn't matter if I set the flight up in the main screen, or on the ground, or mid flight via the FMC. This sucks major, cause I am on Vatsim all the time.... Also when I go direct to a Waypoint, lets say I do an ILS approach, and ATC wants me to go Direct W971, after reaching said point vnav takes me back to the first waypoint and doesn't resume nav from direct waypoint. Which wouldnt be a problem if the LOC would pop up by that point, so I could deselect vnav and go via LOC and then APPR, but as stated they dont....
@thecorporatepilotdad4 жыл бұрын
First, verify the localizer frequency is selected. You can see it in the NAV RAD page on the FMC. It will show the frequency and course. VNAV does not work in FS2020. Make sure you're using NAV/LNAV. If you use LNAV and go direct to a fix it will draw the line to the new waypoint but will still follow the old route. This is a bug. Try HDG mode and then select LOC/FAC (747 and 787) prior to intercept. That button will tell the Flight Director/AP to look for and intercept and then fly the localizer/final approach course in the NAV frequency and ignore the FMC. I have had an issue since the last update where the 787 (and probably other aircraft) will arm the GS then capture and switch back to VS and then ALT. I had to recently turn the AP off and hand fly the GS down. Try those steps and see if that helps.
@andreaslechner_4 жыл бұрын
@@thecorporatepilotdad Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry I mean LNAV! Yeah the issue is, in the INIT PREF page at APPROACH, it doesnt insert the frequency anymore for whatever reason. Since its not taking in any ILS Frequency in the FMC the plane doesnt know what to do, if I press LOC mode then it just turns (what seems to me) into a random direction and flies there. I am not getting the LS display mode neither, Not able to see the purple diamond anymore nor the white cubicles where the diamonds pop up. The bug with the G/S not being captured, yeah I had that as well. Up until today at least, since now its not even letting me do an ILS. Haven't changed anyhting what so ever. Literally started the game, wanted to fly on Vatsim as per usual, and now its not letting me do ILS approaches. Didn't download anything, dont have any extra 3rd party software or anything. Did you select the approach in the FMS? When I made the video I actually flew the route before recording so the FMS was happy and it auto tuned the LOC.
