I went up in Doc a couple of years ago, from the Chino airport in SoCal. I rode in the bombardier's seat in the nose. What a view. What a plane. I love all warbirds but Doc is truly something special.

Old props never get old. as a kid my Dad took his boys to watch the old Lancaster take off and land in Perth western Australia some 40 years ago i will never forget it, i don't think it's there anymore. My dad took us to everything military even on docked navy ships fondly remember walking around on the British aircraft carrier Invincible Thank you Dad RIP

Dear Dan, I visited Perth in 1984 aboard USS Kitty Hawk and in 1989 aboard USS Ranger. I befriended an Aussie couple who took me to a air museum there. I saw a Lancaster painted black because it flew missions over Germany at night as all Brits, NZ, Aussie, & Canadians did. USAA flew daytime bombing missions as you well know. The Yanks didn't worry, they had 'self-sealing' fuel tanks! LoL I had a great visit both times. Perth has the exact same weather is San Diego, only difference is there are a few bushes in the outback that are different from ours. Yes we have Eucalyptus trees here and dozens of Koala bears at our zoo eating Eucalyptus leaves all day. I would love to see a Lancaster fly, closest one is in Canada, a long way from here! :-( Blue skies & tail winds to you.

My dad was a Seabee on Saipan and Tinian. His skill was surveying for all the runways, etc. He did the surveying for the atomic bomb pits, although at the time had no idea what it was for. He said no one at the grunt level knew about B-29s and were really surprised when the first ones arrived on the fields.

The tragic story of the B-29 salvaged in Greenland the Kee Bird. After all the pain stalking efforts to get it air worthy and about to fly it back to the US just to have it catch fire as it was about to start her takeoff run. So sad.

Great to see such an iconic aircraft flying again. The only time I have seen a B29 aircraft was at Jackson Field, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in 1963. The USAF were conducting air-photo mapping operations over the then Dutch New Guinea in preparation for handover to Indonesia.
