Hello everyone, here a video of a GE90-110 startup with a jet air starter. Second engine started by cross bleed from the other engine. Enjoy the noise. #aviation #boeing #aircraft #boeing777

Dank u wel, Dennis, these are fascinating.

so GE90 can't be started from APU bleed like on smaller brothers? UPD: Ah read your comment below; so, is this case APU did not work?

Indeed you only do this when APU is inoperative or it’s bleed supply to the aircraft is inoperative.

Interesting and dangerous task for the ground crew. I didnt know that an engine start would take so long, even with two mobile Ground Air Units. Do you know the time limits for engine start for the GE90-110/115B1? for example: -Normal engine start with Bleed Air from APU -Engine start with Ground Air Unit -Crossbleed Air Engine Start Would it be possible to start the engine with only one Ground Air Unit?

It doesn’t matter how you start the engine, it all depends on the starter. You can use the starter for 5 minutes, then you should abandon the start up of the engine if it doesn’t start up. The starter cycle is 5 minutes on / 10 minutes off. With just the APU bleed the engine normally starts up to idle in about a minute. Same when using the other engine as the bleed source. With the jet air starter it all depends how much air it gives, but as long you don’t pass the 5 minutes the starter is engaged and all engine parameters stay within limits an engine start that takes a couple of minutes is then not a problem. So far I haven’t seen a ground air unit that could start it with one hose. Have seen it with just two. In the end it all depends how good the unit is.

I was wondering how you started GE90s... then I saw your two start carts. My old airline's start carts can barely handle RB211's 😋 For the crossbleed start, do you need to go up on power on the RH engine? I couldn't hear a change in engine tone.

Hello, I checked, but there is no requirement for the working engine to be set at a higher power setting when doing a cross bleed start.
