The Super Hornet does not look as dated as the rest of our fighter jets. The F35 makes everything look dated for sure.

So, after so much talking about 'airshow maneuvers are pointless'... you see an F-18 pilot openly boasting that being able to perform a maneuver that others can't do may be decisive in close quarters dogfighting... Hope that educates some folks to think twice before writing foolish arguments about things they don't know or properly understand :)

not really. the f35 has better range better acceleration Better handing will full combat loads GODLIKE sensors vs the f18 only 30% more expensive than the Super Hornet despite only being in mass production for a few years. I like the f18s, but eventually new jets take over.

3rd Gen Guy where are you getting all of this? I bet the F-18 is much more cost effective. It can probably fly a much larger payload as well

Yeah, of course, dear. Both said planes were of 21th century newest weapon. F/A-18 series were the last from 20th century. Though... the latter F-35 is of problematic...

And guys, it's about maintenance cost. Sure, F-35 stat is good. But care you to tell me of research and repair and stuff? Lately Pentagon got F-35s grounded. Idk their current status. Compared w/ F/A-18, the problem of theirs are they being outdated. They need to improve themselves, like upgrading. Even I read on some articles and from my friend that some of early F/A-18, early F-15s, exceeded their limit flight hours. It's research, repair, upgrade, yet new airframe *vs* upgrade and old airframe. Surely if the scientist found a way to invent or upgrade something that could cut the $$$$ away, then yes, F-35 would win right away.
