With the Finke Desert Race only days away, the crew have to make it across the flooded Simpson Desert. Problems arise as the Black Truck only has rear-wheel drive and gets bogged down. Tensions grow as they work to get each SUPERTOURER™ through the bog holes to try to make it in time for race day.

Ok I’m sure someone else has commented on this ( though I didn’t read all the comments). Permethrin is your friend. Treat your clothing before going on an outing like this and MOST ( not all) of your insect problems go away ( I mean everything that crawls, slithers, or grows is trying to kill you down under.....don’t even get me started on drop bears ;) . We have used it in the military, law enforcement, hunting, and over landing to great effect for several years in the states. I don’t know if it is readily available down under, but if it isn’t , message me and I will send some down! Love the show and keep up the good work !!

Ever thought of getting a ex army unimog as a support vehicle. Front and rear winches, 46’’ tyres, portals, huge tray to carry quads etc and other gear, and the kids would absolutely love it. In that slop the diffs are going to always going to be be the problem ...... portals and 46’’ tyres woulda sorted that🤘🤘 great video, good on yas.

One of the reasons it’s so hard to winch in those boggy conditions is front link suspension. The forces make the radius arms jack and want the axle to dig in. Ideally recovery points on axle and double line pull. Of course you’d need double the winch rope and a winch that turns faster than a snails pace.

When in doubt, power out! Goo the Black Truck! The most important thing about a trip like that is whilst yes the timeline is pressing, I'd rather be dealing with that problem than sitting at a desk! Enjoy the trip AND destination guys. I'd eat the crotch out of a low flying duck to cross the simpson in that convoy!

Did you look at the Southern Bi-pass? I have done the Simpson 12 times including last year - I was later in the year than you however (Southern Bi-pass easy & I have used it three times) & have never had to do the long Northern one.
