I totally get your "I want to use it bc it is so beautiful"-part a lot. The sheer amount of customization possibilities make my ricing-heart go nuts. That and the integration of Chrome extensions are wild! The only thing that degrades Arc to a media-only-browser for me is the fact that it unfortunately doesn't integrate with apple's focus modes and since that was the one feature that made me finally switch my entire eco system(s) and pay a lot of money while doing so, I sadly sadly can not go all the way. It's such a shame bc Arc strikes me as a productivity orientated browser and I'd bet it would benefit a lot from the possibility of switching spaces simply based on your activated foci.

There's been so much hype about this browser, so as a Windows user, thanks for making this video so I can see what it is actually like! A few things I wanted to point out: the element screenshot feature can already be found on Firefox I have already been using vertical tabs on Edge, but the difference is that they are collapsible and not fixed in place/completely hidden away like on Arc The Notes feature looks great, as someone who literally makes new tabs and stops them from loading as notes I love using many tabs myself, so being able to close/suspend them but keep them on my tab list might just be exactly what I've been looking for! I'd have to see how I feel about tabs automatically archiving though, I think that's something I'd just want to do manually... Spaces within the same window are actually quite nice, would basically be like switching virtual desktops, but on the same window! Could be more distracting than it's worth though.. however I do think it would be so much better than having to juggle multiple windows!

I'm pretty happy with the vertical tabs on firefox, too. The built-in ones (currently only in preview afaik) don't have an hierarchy yet, but the tree-style tabs plugin works super well. So after what I saw, it's selling points are: - Spaces, which work better than containers - at least according to the video - Easier to customize the look & also prettier by default The permanent vs temporary tabs seems a bit weird to me. Like I need a page for a while and then I'll just close it, when I'm done. The tabs that I keep open forever are those that I want to eventually look at and not forget. So I guess I'll have to make those permanent? But that's kinda weird to see that e.g. youtube that I use all the time is always going to be "temporary" tabs and that random blog article is a permanent one? Idk. The notes I actually actively dislike. There is already way better note apps out there. The browser itself just seems like a the wrong place. And additionally, it's ALWAYS online? Like, cool that it's private, but it looks like it still always gets uploaded. Oh and it's chromium based so let's see how long the adblocker still works. I don't want hate too much, though. I think I would actually enjoy a "zen" version of firefox a lot and joy-while-using is definitely also a good reason to use some software. Lastly, one of the most important issues with proprietary software that I don't see anywhere: How do they (plan to) make money? I don't think people nowadays will pay for a browser given that there is so many good free options. Are they going to integrate an extra feature and charge for that? Otherwise the only option I can see is user data & since that is probably not gonna make enough data, targeted advertising integrations.

If you have a tab pinned and you want to open a new tab for the same page, it takes more steps than it should for an action so simple. 2. Arc is completely optimized for using it on just one screen, if you use an external monitor things get really ugly. It's like it doesn't know how to manage different windows, tabs, and desktops at the same time. As of 2024 Feb, Arc browser still has performance issues, Chrome just open things up quicker and smoother. I will still give Arc a try never the less.

While I didn't create the video, what I can say is that I think it's because most or all of Arc's developers primarily use Apple devices themselves.

Well, Tabs on the side and splitview have been around with Edge for a long time, as well as several workspaces etc. I thought about switching to Arc, but since I am not a shortcut type at all, the browser was very confusing for me. In addition, there is the sheer size of the Arc Browser, I have games that are not as big as the browser. Also a contra argument for me.

04:55 - 05:02 is such a bullshit example to give instead of giving actual unique keybinds as examples, you used two of the most universal keybinds in a browser...
@arjix8738 Жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, I am one of those windows users that can't wait to use Arc, but you are not giving it good light by praising a common keybind if a common keybind is praised, then that indicates that there aren't better keybinds other than what all the other browsers already have, that might have not been your intent, but thats the message you gave
