We must not forget the men that made this last stand during the satsuma rebellion as they stood for something so rich all of us here have so much to talk about. Bushido and my dep love for life and culture has moulded me to realise how significant these philosophies are.

:D What makes them perfect is their uniqueness, their imperfections ... Throughout its life time it suffers the wind, smiles at (or hides from) the sun, grows with the rain, gets buffeted and each tear and bruise on the petals shows its strength and purpose as it continues to strive in spite of adversities. A Cherry Blossom will always show itself at its best, rich and deep in colour and portraying love of life and desire to thrive, all positive - us humans can learn from the Cherry Blossom :P

It is the imperfections that make it perfect. Every hell I have suffered has given me knowledge. This is what has enabled me to help others so I am grateful for the hell, it was a blessing in disguise. I think so many of us spend time looking for what we think is perfect, we don't realise it is already there.

A true warrior is also a supreme strategist. Slaying an enemy from a distance with a mere thought can also be interpreted as mastering the art of strategy. Through strategy, you can win any battle before it begins and slay any foe before they draw their sword as explained in The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

I don't know about others, and can't speak for anyone but myself, but the man who taught me always impressed one basic truth on me. A martial artist duty lies not with him, but in defending those who cannot or will not defend themselves, to the best of his ability. Take from that what you will.

"Never to be without a short sword for a moment.", I like that. At first sight, they mean the wakizashi, which every samurai had the right to carry along even when he was visiting another (higher-ranking) samurai (usually he had to leave the long sword at the entrance): thus, he could always defend himself in case he was attacked inside the house. On a deeper, metaphorical level, I think it means: "Always be on guard & never lose control even during your most private moments." anicent wisdom :)

Knightdragon0020 like many warriors across history no. But this is not crushing for the warrior who fulfils the ideal romanticized portrayal makes them greater. Why? War can turn a man into a beast ,but those emerging from it still the man of family, nobility in the vision of God they are what attracts us natural, they the Hero.

one of the best if not THE best thing i've seen on youtube..I live by the code, but living by the code within actual society is hard and theres so many times where i feel i failed 2 myself, 2 my ways of living.. I tend 2 blaimed the corruption of capitalist society for my failures 2 the code..but in truth, i know i can't blame anyone but me for my ways of living or for my decisions. Anyways, thanks 4 posting this, I hope one day, i'll find total devotion and loyalty 2 my beleifs..Peace be W/U.

I am on vacation for a few weeks and, surprisingly, I seem to have dug myself into a hole of depression and regrets. I recently quit drinking, and coupled with all of this spare time, I find myself looking inwards and outwards at the world and seeing only negativity. I feel like I need to start living like a true Man...to live by helpful tenets passed down through the ages. Alas, like you, I don't know if I will have the courage to act on these beliefs in our modern age.

Bushido is like the Chinese board game of which it is said "A minute to learn, a lifetime to master." Most teachings of Bushido are very easy to understand, but extremly difficult to master. It is painful because it requires brutal honesty about oneself in front of oneself. It gets easier and incredibly rewarding when one starts to learn how to let go and focus on the essentials in life.

i'll share this once as many people get lost, a warrior is and is not many things but overall he only seeks growth, growth of his skills, growth of his mind and finally one that may perplex u, is growth of the soul. The sword/weapon only an extension of the body. The will to kill is far more important. A true warrior can slay his enemies from a limitless distance with a mire thought. But that is beyond what many would consider to be a reality.

I've read most of them... ;) but I'm not talking about the philosophy of Bushido... because you can add an infinite number of virtues in this way. I'm talking about the Bushido as a practical way of life... the very point of respecting the basic 7 - 8 principles of Busido is to help you undestand the spiritual way of the warrior and create your own philosophy ;)

Humility has to be experienced for people to get it. Most people in the martial arts never have this happen because martial arts schools have become to mainstream and "overprotective parent" friendly. How can people learn humility If they are never humiliated? Martial arts schools and Martial arts in general need to remember what martial arts are for, Defeating your opponent before he kills you and then mentally and spiritually guiding you -in that order.
