Lucy was much more engaging on the toxic masculinity questions, and I think since all the guys were together it was harder for them to open up on that. I feel that Rami would have had a good response if he was in a solo interview. I want to hear his thoughts on Freddie's behavior in some of those scenes. Lucy did do a wonderful job.

Interesting topic and interesting answers between the lads and Lucy. Yes, I’ve seen the movie twice and Lucy really nailed the explanation about the “toxic masculinity” relationship between Freddie and Mary.

I thought so too. It was the perfect explanation of it. Thank you so much for watching it.

Xilla Valentine Network Bruh, there were lots lol! Especially, when Freddie goes “How could you?” to Mary when she told him she’s pregnant with her bf’s child, boi! I was so ready to throw a pop corn or two on the screen 😂 Cool interview, you’re the very first one who brought that topic up 👍🏻

His observation is not wrong.. Wen Freddie said "how could you " after getting to know that she is pregnant... That one fleeting moment of rage in Rami's eyes.. Like he was betrayed by her... While he was sleeping around with all sorts of people...men and women.. It did made me wonder.. why Freddie wanted her all the while he was also with other people.. It must have been devastating for Mary..

They had a very peculiar relationship indeed, but I dont think it was "toxic". They simply loved each other too much and they were to much connect to be apart. I think it wouldnt have happened if Freddie have moved on to another woman.
@clarissaleung45092 жыл бұрын
Lol Freddie was gay so he only slept with men after breaking up with Mary. And no evidence suggests that Freddie was possessive of her after the breakup or got upset about her being pregnant. That literally never happened. Brian and Roger said they actually were not close with Mary and didn’t know about their relationship much (since they broke up in 1975/6, and Mary was really just a friend and occasional beard who would visit him occasionally), so most Mary scenes in the biopic are completely fictionalized. A lot of her lines are actually real quotes from other people in Freddie’s life. Freddie may not have been very happy since he felt lonely largely in the late 70s and early 80s, but he met Jim in 1984 and since then he was a very happy man in love and settled.

I don't think Freddie's posessive behaviour came from his toxic masculinity. She was his best friend and the only one who truly understood him. When you find somebody like that, you can get a bit posessive, despite of their gender, because you don't want to loose them. Freddie was a very lonely and misunderstood person, so I understand why he was like that, even though I don't approve of it. But I don't believe it has to do with gender.
@Tom-dp4oq4 жыл бұрын
He chanded his "lifestyle" but also didin't want to loose her. I think he managed to have both.
@clarissaleung45092 жыл бұрын
Mary was not the “only one who truly understood him”. That’s the biopic, not what really happened. Freddie would put on a different personality around her and there were a lot of aspects in Freddie’s life she didn’t actually know after they broke up. A lot of Freddie’s friends actually knew him a lot better than Mary did.

I don't think it was toxic masculinity. Even women do that. It is only toxic when the other person doesn't love you or you try to stop them from living their life. As Lucy says, that Mary was the centre point of his life, he called her the love of his life. Even after he realized and accepted that their relationship cannot work, he always wanted her around because he loved her. And he maintained that. That is why to see her move on to another man or eventually get pregnant with another man's child was a bit difficult for him (as these two points have been shown in the film). But he accepted it, didn't he? I think it was beautiful and heartbreaking.

I totally get what you meant. I also felt like Freddie was very possesive of Mary in the film. I sometimes felt sorry for her. Mary was Freddie's anchor (?), his best friend but I keep asking myself: who was Freddie for her? What did he give her? These are my questions about the film, not real Freddie and Mary, because I feel like it's their private matter.

Great interview. I'm fascinated by Mary and Freddie's relationship along the years, but I sometimes ask myself If it hadn't been better for both of them if they had broken up and never seen each other again.
@clarissaleung45092 жыл бұрын
Their relationship is way exaggerated in the biopic and most documentaries. They basically broke up in 1975/6 after he cheated on her with David Minns and came out to her. After that Mary was really only an ex, a friend and beard that would visit him occasionally. A lot of Freddie’s friends actually said he acted different whenever she was around - almost like he put on a different persona, a tamed, toned down, “straighter” version of himself, and she actually didn’t know much about his life after they broke up. Freddie’s close friend Phoebe and his boyfriend whom he called husband, Jim said it was awkward when they had Christmas dinner with her after Freddie’s death, because they didn’t know what to talk about since there was a lot Freddie didn’t tell her.
