Ah yes. Still have mine somewhere in that huge garage. Back when I had to grind for credits. It was the "Lowe, KV-5, Type 59 loop. Die in a battle, jump out, grab the next in line. I could crank out a couple million credits a day doing that. BUT win rate suffered. Type 59 was an awesome tank back when it first came out. Not so much anymore.

I have owned a Type 59 since 2012. I got it after being bullied endlessly by wolfpacks in my tier 6s and 7s. A few months after it was removed from the premium shop in ‘12, it came back on sale for a few days and I was damned sure going to get it. So I did. Ah, nostalgia.

I bought the Type 59 back in the day when you could still buy it, and played it to death. It STILL is my most played tank, though I've prob only played 10 or so games with it in the last 4 or 5 years or so. Looked up Doug DeMuro on KZbin, and as I suspected, he's a car guy I follow with over 4.1mill followers. I wonder if it's the some Doug that played this game. Looking forward to the next WoT video Jingles. Keep the coming.

I think it was May 2012 when I managed to get the Type 59 and KV-5. Due to my computer not being able to handle WOT anymore. I had to switch and play Blitz instead. First chance I was able to. I got the Type 59 . I still have that Type 59 Wallet Warrior T-shirt from when Wargaming was do that merchandise bit with a company I have since forgotten the name of.

Well do not forget 9 years ago WoT was a quite different game. No physics, only german, US and Soviet tanks in it, and there just a fraction of the tanks they have now. Most of its enemies were WWII tanks, most of them like the germans build quite hight so always having problems hitting the Type 59 when close. Circlestrafing with them was quite popular as tehy barely lsot any speed when going around you. I played only german tanks then and for these the Type59 was a bit of a nightmare, too fast most of the time to get a solid hit on them, and then you had the small and sloped hull and turret to deal with. Add to that they normally would show up in pairs at least and driving a slow heavy or TD was not very fun then. Congrats for all who added Doug DeMuro puns to the thread. :D

In addition to not having a lot of ammo to begin with the 13 57 also has really bad pen on its AP (143) so I am very impressed that the guy not only plays his 13 57 entirely without APCR but that he also has 2 marks on it, kudos...

As a type 59 main i can say that 9 yrs ago the type 59 was a good medium tank. Nowadays power creep got into it. I agree with most of the things that jingles said except dpm which is not bad,accuracy which is kind of russian rather than chinese and the fact that it gets its ammo rack dmged a lot of times and set on fire a lot of times and also another reason why ppl love this tank is cuz its cheap to upkeep so you can make a lot of credits with it! Nevertheless i still love this tank!

They Type-59 was dangerous because when it came out it had preferential matchmaking in a system that had a FOUR TIER SPREAD. Youd see this in Tier V matches where its frontal armor was almost godly, and before WG nerfed its engine power and terrain stats, it flew around the battle field like the old T-54 did. So yeah, seeing 3 or 4 of these on the enemy team was bad. but seeing them when they were the highest tier vehicle and you were in a Tier V or Tier VI with virtually no chance to hurt one frontally as it sped around the battlefield in a cooridinated pattern was BS... ...that i enjoyed cause i got one on release.

I remember when they hyped the crap out of this thing on console. Yes, I am one of those peasants... It was a great tank. You could pretty much guarantee a steel wall everytime, if you were in a good hull down spot. Fast forward a little bit, and they had the nerve to introduce, & hype the crap out of, the King Dragon Type 59. And I quote " just like the type 59, but a little bit better." Now you can get the all new Type 59 II reward tank. Blows the other two out of the water. I have no idea why I still play this game sometimes...

Of course he made a profit, the Type 59 is one of the best credit making tanks aling with the patriot. It's non gold ammo have ridiculously low costs which is why you can make a killing playing these tanks. Now, about the Type 59 being an ok tank... Yeah, that certainly is true NOW! But let's look at the actual history of it because here's a funny fact before anyone looks at the WG published history of changes to it. There was a lot of ninja nerfs to it that were not made public. When the Type 59 was released it was an absurdly powerful tank. It had a decent gun, it had really good mobillity, it certainly would go uphill fast, faster than most if no all mediums at it's tier at the time (there was a reason why it was always the first tank up on the hill) and to top it off, it had a very trolly armor. It was unpenetrable in the turret (safe for the cupola) and the frontal plate was more bouncy than the T54. I remember several battles on heavy tanks at tier 8 and my shots just bouncing almost all the times on their upper plate. Certianly they bounced more often than they penetrated. Then it was nerfed, some of these nerfs were public, others weren't. They removed the good engine so it couldn't even properly play as a medium, unless you count the german mediums as real mediums with the attrocious P/W rate they have and they ninja nerfed the armor. From day to night with no announcement, the front plate that was even more trolly than the T54 was now getting penetrated most of the times (this was prior to the HD models). Then HD models hit and the front plate went from being penetrated most of the time to almost always being penetrated and the turret that could before even bounce the ISU-152 BL10 gun to even a heavy being able to penetrate it from the front in some locations that was not the cupola. So at this point you had gone from one of the fastest medium tanks with an ok gun and better armor than most heavies to a tank had had a bad gun (because of it's speed the gun could no longer perform well enough to be considered ok) poor speed to do a medium tank job and no armor to speak off. Is it surprising that no one wanted to touch it anymore? The only thing it still had going for it was the low ammo cost. Then the buffs eventually started. At first just a slight penetration buff that didn't do anything, then improvements to accuracy and a better engine that made it able to perform a medium tank role. And that is where it stands now. Is it a good tank. No, it's merely alright. The turret is mostly reliable as long as you are not hit on the cupola or the frontal weak spots and the gun is not that inaccurate either. It can get where it needs to go relatively fast though it is by no means the fastest medium. Pair that with the low ammo cost and it is a very effective credit maker. I'd rate it higher than the patriot since it has a much better gun and it has a good speed though granted, the patriot is actually a heavy with a medium tank gun if you were to look at it's armor and speed rather than the classification given to it by WG. Still, that gun accuracy is attrocious.

Type 59 was popular because of its Armour..it was hyped up as a t54 at t8..wich it pretty much was..not sure what jingles is on about here but it must be dementia because the type 59 was hated by everyone because 175 pen was basically the norm (way before gold ammo) for thier 8 unless you where a to or top teir unlocked heavy... The type 59 offered protection from 175mm pen and mobility. Plus it was small and had angles, wich was somewhat of a rarity back then. Even more of a rarity was a premium rank that offered mobility. Mobility plus amour made this thing a gem everyone wanted. Trust me, everyone wanted mobility back in the day for their premium tanks because grinding in your slow are kv5 got to be very dreary and made us long for something to zip around and maneuver around the map, and with God like Armour? Hecks yes. I'm really shocked at jingles response to why it was popular..he is way off the mark for being such a seasoned vet.

The Type 59 is a mediocre tank NOW. Back then, it was not. Power creep, direct nerfs and indirect nerfs made it mediocre. It was TRULY OP prior to the physics update. This thing could zoom around the battlefield like a light tank and taking corners like a Formula One racecar. All the while with a turret NO ONE at TIER 8 could pen. And when shooting at it, your shots either got absorbed by the tracks or went flying off the turret. Don't forget kids, the TYPE 59 IS a T-54 with arguably BETTER stats. So you are getting a TIER 9 tank at TIER 8 with match making back in the day which meant you ONLY saw TIER 8 battles.

Monetizing teamwork? Jingles, have you already forgotten that they used to lock 3-man platoons away behind a premium account? Standard Account could only start 2-man platoons. And the Type 59, in addition to being nerfed quite substantially over time, came out in a very different landscape. Back before +2 matchmaking, your Preferential Tier 8 could face Tier 5s, and the competition at Tier 8 wasn't much to write home about either, likewise Tier 7 had low pen across the board with the exception of the Germans, Tank Destroyers and Mediums extended only to Tier 9 and artillery to Tier 8, and the people kicking about at tier 8 and above were substantially newer to the game. Oh, and a deep discount to the Lowe had big, slow, soft HP pinatas rolling around for Types to feast on. The game sure has changed. Damn I feel old.

Starting with the weekend categories and styling, the Type 59 is pretty handsome and it gets an 8 out of 10. Acceleration it does 0 to erm... 35 in about 6 seconds which is not that amazing and it gets a 4 out of 10 Handling is good, not light tank material but it can get around quick enough and it gets a 6 out of 10 Fun factor is good, it's a pretty standard tier 8 medium but thanks to preferential matchmaking you will relatively competitive which earns it a 7 out of 10 Cool factor is great, everyone wants this tank and seeing one is becoming rarer and rarer which easily gives it a 9 out of 10, giving a total weekend score of 34 out of 50 Next up are the daily categories and features, the Type 59 doesn't have anything to the modern standards, only the basics, which gives it a 3 out of 10 Comfort is alright, it's your quite standard shoot and go tank even though making use of hulldown makes it more capable which isn't all that easy with the limited gun depression. I'll meet in the middle and give it a 5 out of 10 Quality is what you expect from a Chinese tank, and it gets a 3 out of 10 Practicality is okay, it's quite large so you have room for a 4 man crew and a reasonable amount of shells to go with it, giving it a 6 out of 10 Finally value and modded accounts with these on it go for crazy amounts, so are bundles and prizes or even lootboxes and people are actually paying for it. It's worth the money to some but objectively, not so much, giving it a 5 out of 10 for a total daily score of 22 out of 50. Add it up and the dougscore is... 56 out of 100 placing it nowhere on the board as this is the first (and probably last) time I do this.

7:20 "It's not acctually that good" @The Mighty Jingles Well as far as I remember it got nerfed at one point or something liek that and then buffed years later. But wasn't the only reason why it's not as good as it once was, the main reason why the Type 59 isn't as good anymore is due to the competition it faced then and what it faces now. Back in 2012 the only medium tank that could reliably pen the Type 59 was the Panther 2 with it's (for the time) outstanding 203 mm of pen on the long 88 gun. On the other hand the sub 190 pen guns of the T-44 and Pershing could go fuck themselves when they met one unless you found an idiot Type 59 who gave you his small lower plate for free. Edit: Also remember that in 2012 you could not buy gold for credits so it was an exceedingly rare ammo type, which insulated the Type 59 even more, making it a moster among T8 medium tanks. Also if I remember correctly it had or still has the 120 mm uper frontal plate of the T-54 which is amazing for a medium, especially in the absence of gold ammo or high pen medium tanks guns.

IIRC, what nerfed the Type 59 was the implementation of physics. Edit: They actually did make some nerfs to the Type 59 way back in 2012. But they also made buffs in the same patch so the whole thing was a net buff. When all the Tier 8 preferential MM tanks got buffed in 2018, most of the nerfs got erased. And if the buffs that are currently in supertest go live, the Type 59 will be better than it's ever been before...and still only an average Tier 8 medium. Which just shows how severe the powercreep has been.

Yep, it's a decade of power creep (and gold ammo becoming merely expensive ammo) that's turned a borderline OP tank into mediocrity. With standard ammo, most tier 8 mediums had a less than 50% chance of penning the upper plate head-on. The other half of its popularity was that it 'only' cost 7500 gold to the 12500 gold many other tier 8 premiums cost.

The main thing that makes t59 "not great" now is powercreep. 95% of all shells being fired being gold now has a strong impact on its turret that was really hard to crack back in the day, and that's not even mentioning average pen and in general has gone up a lot even if you do meet the one or two people still playing without full gold loadouts.

When Type 59s were on sale, they were a really good tier 8 medium. I mean their only competition were the Panther 2, T-44, and Pershing, and none of those were as versatile as what was, essentially, a down tiered T-54. And gold ammo was only for real money so nobody used it, so the front of a Type 59 posed a challenge for most things on the same tier. The fact that they're still a pretty average tier 8 medium now, after 9 years of power creep, shows what a force they used to be.

Imagining Doug Demuro doing tank reviews naturally makes me think of the Chieftain's Hatch, and now that's the crossover I really want to see. I want an hour and a half conversation between Doug and Nick Moran where they compare review styles, and then come up with a modified version of the Doug Score for tanks, complete with "Oh my God, the tank is on fire" and "sleeping on the engine deck" categories. I realize that the cross-section of internet fans who will immediately understand and know what these things mean is insanely small. But I also know that the number of Jingles fans who might see this and understand will be a non-zero percentage. This comment was written for that incredibly small demographic.

These things didn't even need wolfpacks to wreck the enemy team, though. They were more or less the fastest thing at their tier, they were all but immune to incoming fire frontally, and their gun was among the best. At the very least, back in the day, a Type 59 would obliterate a Tiger 2 or a T32 one-on-one with ease, 9 times out of ten.

That's the way I recall it as well - the game has power-crept to catch up with the Type 59.

@Flutschi der Gleitdroid Which is fine, I figured that the gold rounds would be expensive doing 80 damage per time 😄. It is just refreshing to see a player doing well because they aren't spamming the two key every 5 seconds.
