Growing up, we often had burgers on toast, hotdogs placed on an angle/kitty corner over a slice of untoasted bread. Dad was a route bread delivery man, and bread was always on the table, buns-not so much, too expensive. That burger method is worth a try, looks good and moist. I'd add some lettuce to mine, too and we have home made/garden grown pickles and relishes to chose from. Always serve burgers with a side of New England style baked beans (I home can mine) and sometimes, we have my own canned, tomato pork beans, a la Campbells (also home canned). Good eats.

White Castle hamburgers are not grilled. The meat and small dinner roll buns are steamed on a bed of onions. White Castle (in 1921) was the first fast food restaurant and invented many items served at fast food chains today. Grandma boiled burgers, always served on toasted bread and used the leftover liquid as a wonderful soup base. NO spattered greasy stove top to clean 😊
@deussolinvictus7 ай бұрын
If you go to a White Castle in Missouri, they serve their burgers with steamed onion only. In New Jersey or New York, they add ketchup. The latter is wholly wrong.
@michigan12917 ай бұрын
Perfect, NO ketchup or mustard. possibly a pickle like in Michigan. In the 60s they were 10 for a dollar and they served a slice of pineapple pie, for the adventurous :) @@deussolinvictus

Watching this reminds me of how my grandmother use to cook. She stuck with that Great Depression mind set of not wasting anything. She said there wasn't much meat but anything involving vegetables were made n possibly fruit. Thank you Mr.Tom for allowing us in your home and another great video.

We have a restaurant in our town that only sells boiled burgers. They also have car hops. I go there for a single hamburger with everything on it and an order of deep fried mushrooms. It costs me about 12 dollars (before the tip).

Howdy there Mr. Tom!👋 I have to admit that I have never heard of or tried a boiled burger, but the way you mentioned the flavor and how moist it is, makes me REALLY wanna give it a try now!!😛 I just wish my mom and grandmother were still alive so I could ask them & see if they remember something like this (they were both born in Texas, and I'm a California gal)🇺🇲...By the way, I would love to see a short video of Gracie and the kitty crew trying their first boiled burger too so we could see how much they like it as well!🐈🐈⬛.. If it's possible, maybe you could add them to the end of your next video if it's not too much trouble! Thanks for the wonderful trip back to yesteryear, and here's wishing you and everyone a beautiful, bright and blessed week ahead!🌞🙏🌈 Take care! Ms. Elizabeth 🍔😋🍔😋🍔

I haven't made one of these burgers in a long time. I used beef bouillon cube and water mixed. It gives burgers a great flavor. Never thought to add garlic or onion powder to the mixture. I never use buns, only white bread, toasted.... whether it be hamburgers or tuna. I had a grey cat named Gracie, but she has been gone for about 10 years now. Looking forward to more of your recipes and talks.

I learned something new in this video. I have never heard of boiled burgers before. I have baked burgers in the oven but never boiled them. Looked really good and I love the idea of saving the broth for soups. I already save broths from other dishes for that reason. So this is one idea that I will be trying soon. It is so fun to think back and bring back things from the past and what our mothers and grandmothers used to do.

Wow Mr. Tom, that takes me back quite a few years ago to a happy childhood memory with my Dad. We would sometimes stop into a small corner cafe in Dublin, Ga where the burgers were floating in a large vat and would be dipped out and served up while we watched them cook. I have never seen this method since then and have often thought of that great tasting burger . Now I know what it was! Thanks for the stroll down memory lane when I was just a small child holding my dads hand in that burger joint and life was good. Blessings to you and yours and the kitty crew of course.
