The metal clip on the temp probe sometimes needs to be bent slightly so that it makes good contact with the inside of the immersion well on those Hydrostat controls. That’s the only issue I’ve seen with them. Haven’t had to replace a temp probe yet, but good to know they are available as a service part.

Always good to carry a spare LWCO probe for those Hydostats I've come across that issue myself. I like the Honeywell Aquastat myself. Good video as always.

I believe the boiler water completes a circuit to the probe by acting as a ground. When the water becomes low, The ground is broken thus the circuit is open. Not a 100% on that.

Steve, I learned something about those probes!

Parents had an issue with the low water cutoff a few years back after my Dad did the annual service on it. He couldn't figure out why it wouldn't fire up (last year doing it himself, mind is too far gone from Parkinson's now). Must have had air in just the wrong spot. Bypassed the cutoff just long enough for it to fire and let the circulator run, heard the air at the high vent, then shut it off and reconnected the cutoff. Been running fine since. It's an older cutoff though, just interrupts power if it doesn't detect water in the pipe. Just move a wire over to bypass it.

Trying to troubleshoot on a laars pennant. Goes into auto high limit. The low water cutoff keeps blinking

Seemed like too new a unit to be having troubles. Sometimes having more sensors isn’t a good thing. Just makes for more problems down the road. Miss molly looks pampered for sure

Nice setup. New tanks and that burner looks good. Recirc pumps look good too. Miss Molly, well she looks good but that's because you got her spoiled. lol Take care of her Steve, you and her are sort of connected at the hips .

Thabks to your video, I learned about the probe for the lwco. Like you said...I knew I had water as it was at 20psi. I turned off power at the service switch, push the probe wire in more (must have gotten loose) and disconnected then reconnecred it on the hydrostat. Turn the service switch back on and had to reprime after due to waiting for an oil delivery and putting in 10 gallons of diesel to tide us over. Up and running now. Didn't have a probe in my truck so figured I would just make sure the current probe was in the way it should be first. Maybe a good first step if you don't have a probe and doing it solo. However, if you're already paying for a repair it's nice to know that you replace it as a precaution seeing that you're already charging. Have any videos on replacing a slightly leaking hot water coil gasket?

great info. thnx. if the probe type LWCO is defective, what other device is there to SHUT DOWN the boiler, in a low water situation? I am scared, to think that there is no OTHER safety DEVICE on a steam boiler, if the probe type LWCO, FAILS. Please comment. Anyone else also can give an input.

New Peerless and tanks that won't a cheap job. I had a customer who actually put in a 10 gage 500. That thing will still be there when all of us are gone.

Mine is stuck in the well. Any idea how to get it out without ripping it apart. Btw, burner has been off for about 24 hours. Not sure if that’s the reason it’s jammed (expansion/contraction)

Steve-after all these years of service calls, it seems Becket has the monopoly on boilers. any experience on better units?
@erikj.20664 жыл бұрын
Beckett makes the burners, not the boiler (this boiler was a Peerless). The other common burner manufacturers are Carlin, Riello, and Wayne. Everyone has their favorite flavor, and some makes/models are better for certain applications than others.

do you happen to know where i can order that probe sensor or have a part number. have same issue with mines but cant find a it on their website or do i just go with what shows up online for hydrostat.
