I don't know why exactly but my guess would be that he has it at eye level so he can see the grooves. Either that or it's a style thing because many DJs manage fine with the decks at waist level

Its soundsystem style. One turntable for the selection. That means you have to be very precise when you put the needle on the record. Thats why is so high, to have the the records on eye level so you can have perfect view on the grooves
