Becca the Chicken was played by Lisa Hanawalt, the head Production Designer for the show. When they were doing initial read-throughs for the episode, before casting guest actors, Lisa was so funny as Becca everyone insisted that she be the final choice.

As a european farmer i can tell you „loose regulations“ dont exist here. The inspector is basically a part of the family🤣😂 but i cant speak for the US ive heard its not that progressed when it comes to food quality and animal well being (generally a lot of farmers care deeply but if i see a picture of the cows in those pens in the sun i just get so angry cause cows shouldnt eat grain thats not what there stomachs are made for AND they shouldnt stand in the sun etc etc)

So glad that you guys are really getting into this series and also enjoying it, just wait until ya'll get more into the later seasons. Because this show can go into some very dark places as well as touch on some intense but true to real life themes, I remember when I first started watching Bojack Horseman I was a bit surprise by it, while I knew what it dealt with and always heard on how good the show was or heard about the realistic problems along with the Issues this series tackles on the hypocrisy of Hollywood in general and the toxic parts of our pop culture media that's affects us & such. I still wasn't sure what to make of the show upon first episode/first season...not that I hated it nor disliked it because I was hooked right away but this adult cartoon still took me by surprise with how goddamn not afraid its goes there at times with how emotional serious also depressingly mature it could focus on life...and for that reason is why I can't wait for you girls to really get deep into this awesome series.

I´ve never seen a vegan tell someone to give up animal products they rely on to survive, but I´ve heard many non-vegans bring up how offensive it is to tell opressed people to give up the animals they rely on . seems like a deflection to me. we don´t like having our morals questioned so we just bring up some scenarion where we can easily justify eating meat instead of looking at our own actions.
@monsieurbanc3499

I’m glad you talked about this issue at the end of your video. As you said, this kind of episode is designed to have people talk about it. I would like to comment on some things you said, not all of them because I don’t want to bore you with a very long message ^^ But first I would like to say that I am not blaming you and I am not here to judge you, but merely here to maybe push your reflections further :) It’s not your fault that we live in a society that has normalized animal cruelty. First thing I would like to say is that our individual actions are actually helping. I mean it’s basically “demand and supply”. And if you just think about it on a meal to meal basis, each time you eat something else is like you actually have saved a life. And actually, veganism is one of the fastest-growing social justice movements in the world today and at the current pace it is estimated that by 2040, more than half of the population won’t be eating meat. Finally, your actions inspire your relatives, which in turn inspire their relatives. Then, yes, some people need meat for survival but most vegans don’t have a problem with that. In times of necessity, something that would have been seen as immoral could become moral. For instance, there was a plane crash in the mountains in the 70’s (I think) where the survivors had to eat the bodies of the other (dead) passengers in order to survive. Even though cannibalism isn’t seen as moral in most situations, it is difficult to blame them in this particular situation. That’s also why we can’t blame lions for eating other animals as they need to to survive (plus the fact that they don’t have our moral agency). But let’s be honest, most of us aren’t in a survival situation so we can’t use these arguments to justify our actions. Final thing I wanted to point out is the fact that in the show, chickens are killing chickens, which may seem disturbing. But I think that what the show is trying to tell us is that even though we, as humans, are different from the animals we eat, these differences don’t justify their exploitation. Thomas Jefferson, who is the man who first tried to get an abolition of slavery, once responded to a man writing a book about the intellectual and artistic achievements of black people as follows: “Be assured that no person living wishes more sincerely than I do, to see a complete refutation of the doubts I have myself entertained and expressed on the grade of understanding allotted to them by nature. [...] But whatever be their degree of talent it is no measure of their rights. Because Sir Isaac Newton was superior to others in understanding, he was not therefore lord of the person or property of others.” Especially if the justification for this suffering is something as trivial as sensory pleasure. There are other justifications like traditions or convenience, but hey… Do any of these are relevant to the construction of our moral principles? Well, I think I will end my message here. And as I don’t frequently post in the comment section, I’ll take this opportunity to thank you for your content and to say that I am really glad that people like you can earn money from something that you actually like and which makes you happy! (btw the creator of the show is vegan haha)

This episode also brilliantly shows how corporate media defends big business. Instead of hardhitting questions after the Becca scandal, the host just brings the CEO of Chicken4Dayz on his show to advertise them. And yeah, the reason why the chickens are running the chicken farm is to shock viewers. I dont think it would be any better if it was a different animal type since we see in the show that all animals are capable of human intelligence and living together in society. In our world, humans are basically just smarter animals so us making a business out of slaughtering animals is messed up, too. Not that theres a realistic alternative for now (maybe lab grown meat will be one in a few decades), but its still something we can think about for a moment.

Totally agree. It's just a lot of Vegans only want to shame and guilt people into changing their diets, which comes off as self-serving rather than a real attempt to solve problems. I'd much rather we just actually enforce the regulations we have now and add new ones to increase working standards, pay, and reduce animal cruelty/health hazards. Encouraging investment in better forms of farming and technology may help a lot too.
@steggyweggy
@steggyweggy 3 жыл бұрын
@@b.ballooon9225 the reason vegans do so is because it’s still immoral if you don’t go all the way. It’s like saying, “Well let’s not completely get rid of slavery, we’ll only make sure they can’t be beaten any more.” It’s still bad even if it’s not as bad as it was before.

I'm a pescetarian now, but I only eat fish once a week maximum. I was a vegetarian for more than 10 years, and even then, I never told people they should stop eating meat because I think it's wrong (which I do, and not only because of the cruelty of it, but also for the environment), but I am in favor of reducing meat consumme. We don't need to eat meat everyday in all meals. You can eat meat once or twice a week and the demand will go down a bit (for those who have the luxury of choosing, of course). And I need to say how much it bothers me when I watch an american movie/tv show and food being wasted is portrayed as something normal or funny. I remember a scene from a tv show where a detective bought a hot dog, his partner said "we gotta go" and he threw it in the garbage. And it wasn't a comedy, this was normalized.
