Liam and Steffy can sense each other. It's been proven on multiple occasions. I think the reason he was hesitating putting the ring on Hope's finger that day when Brooke surprised them was because he could sense Steffy. These two do it all the time just like when Liam was on the beach looking for Steffy after Quinn kept him hostage or when Steffy finally signs the divorce papers from Wyatt and Liam is at the airport, Steffy and Liam sense each other. He doesn't have that with Hope or anyone for that matter.
