Helen's reaction is understandable as a mother, she would never give up hope of her son returning unless he was confirmed dead. I thought she was a great character and wished they'd kept her on, especially after Storm left. Then we could have had one old lady bashing Brooke's ear about those dastardly Forresters on one side, and Stephanie bashing Brooke on the other. 😁

I didn't feel sorry for her. She was conflicted seeing eric due to the mastectomy but not feeling bad to pretend to be Stephanie's friend while Stephanie showed her concern... Yes I know Stephanie's intentions now aren't pure but when she visited her in the hospital, there was genuine concern. Im sure had she married Eric he'd have cheated on her anyway. And how deadbeat was Beth and Stephen back then anyway? 2 college graduates from the 50s and they were struggling? Back then a university degree would have guaranteed a good job. What were they doing?

Eric’s kids are grown adults, and even when/of they divorced Eric will still have a relationship with his kids while Stephen abandoned his young kids when they needed him and didn’t even call to see if their alive or dead over the years. Couple’s divorce all the time it’s normal which is different from a man leaving his wife and kids and not caring about them.

At the beginning when Beth wasn't in the picture is asked Eric point blank if he wanted a divorce and he said he didn't want it, they start to work on their marriage, Beth shows up Eric become ice cold and wants a divorce... I'd do the same thing. You don't invest yourself in something just so someone comes and tear it down without a fight. Unless you don't care about your family. And all those divorces had consequences that made them all miserable... Eric more than anyone

I think Eric should have been with Beth earlier on in this show and stayed with her -- but the first iteration not her dull mousy replacement. He was absolutely horrible to Stephanie for many years and cheated on her multiple times. And through all this, Stephanie became an insecure, bitter and desperate woman clinging to a man who treated her like a doormat.
