*Brooke & Taylor: New Role, Who Dis?* Once again we see the attempt to switch Brooke and Taylor’s _roles_ while retaining their _archetypes._ Brooke is now "the wife" trying to hold on to Ridge and Taylor is now "the other woman" he still has feelings for. And Ridge jealously objects to Taylor dating James the way he used to object to Brooke dating Connor. At the same time, the Good Girl/Bad Girl dichotomy remains: Taylor is a creature of the mind, occupying Ridge’s thoughts while Brooke is a creature of the b o d y appealing to Ridge’s s ex u a l urges. Moreover Brooke actively plotting to pair James up with Taylor and unconvincingly declaring that she’s not threatened by Taylor marks her as the same scheming insecure woman she was before - becoming the wife has not made her passive nor imbued her with confidence. Making this even more complicated is the legal aspect: Taylor is still legally Ridge's wife while Brooke is not, so in many ways Brooke lacks the dignity that normally comes with "the wife" role. Normally The Wife and The Good Girl are the same as it was when Taylor and Ridge were married, but that is not the case here. This mis-alignment of role and archetype makes it harder to tell who will or should come out on top, and as I wrote in *episode 2102,* it feels as if the show was originally leading to a "turn" where Ridge broke up with Brooke and went back to Taylor (most likely with the paternity reveal) but then Hunter Tylo leaving for Melrose Place disrupted that storyline outcome. Note how Ridge echoes Stephanie at 7:10 ("The last thing Taylor needs is a friend with ulterior motives") thus confirming the reliability of her narration which includes the prediction that Ridge and Taylor will reunite. Had HT never left, it's very possible that's where things were headed and that the show was attempting to align the roles and archetypes once again.

I love reading your analyses and an almost ashamed to publish my thoughts after yours 😂 I can't help but think of how I see the 2 relationships between Ridge and Taylor vs Ridge and Brooke. Taylor and Ridge's relationship always seemed so cerebral, on a higher level.. Even thwir conversations. Brooke's relationship with Ridge, to me, has always been very superficial and physical with not much else going on.

I would never deny that Ridge loves Brooke and they do have a lot of chemistry. But I've always seen their relationship as more of a YA romance while Taylor and Ridge's relationship felt more adult. That's why I don't think Ridge and Brooke should be together for long (and why Bill Bell never let them get married) because they are more compelling as a couple when they're longing for each other.

Excellent analysis as always Nick! And in spite of Brooke claiming to be secure, she is still acting as if the competition for Ridge's heart is ongoing, not resolved. I guess somewhere in the back of her mind she is aware of Ridge's 🐊⏰and that anything can happen in the next six months. It's almost as if Brooke can't help herself but just has to keep plotting one way or another. Encouraging James to pursue Taylor is not, strictly speaking, necessary, nor is it a Wife/Good Girl move. It's just in Brooke's nature to do these things in spite of herself. I have to wonder how the paternity reveal was originally intended to play out, and whether HT's leaving changed that. Because the way it was written, it actually didn't necessarily end up weakening the bond between Ridge and Brooke, instead giving them a "romantic" story arc of Brooke being "rescued" by Ridge in Barbados.

Loved the head post and agree with the comments that follow. To add, I feel "looking from the outside" is a role that suits Brooke better, because of her girl next door looks, Eric's kids and insecure demeanour. Taylor looks more like "end game" for someone like Ridge. That's why Bridge always looks one sided to me, even when Ridge's expressions and dialogues are in Brooke's favour. Well up until 2002 atleast.

That’s something when Jessica was 17 Dylan couldn’t keep his hands off of her,Connor was the lawyer representing him, when was supposed to be so in love with Jessica back then, until her Mom Maggie came along his feelings for Jessica went away in no time, I know in her way she really does love Dylan & trusts him. That’s totally sick of Dylan to hook up with someone you once so say loved & supposed to care about Mom ! I hate how the poor late Ivana went after her for nothing at her 17th birthday party had liquor there to get her to drink then that’s when Dylan fell for her then, regardless of whether her character is exciting, or not, she wasn’t trying to intentionally hurt Dylan or no one , Jessica is going become sick later with diabetes that will lead to her coma, & Dylan still won’t be showing the poor girl no love & compassion even though He & Maggie rushed her to the hospital when she passed out all He,s going to be thinking about Him & her Mom Maggie! Then Michael will decide to put the moves on him, while Jessica is in the hospital, then He will give into Michael,s interest for him when He finally realizes that He can’t have Maggie & keep her in his life Dylan will be going from woman to woman I hate how they all will be showing a lack of compassion for Jessica, when she will be fighting for her life in that coma,Stephanie will later find out about Dylan & Maggie,s romance & will be very furious with them while Jessica,s in the hospital poor girl when she recovers from her coma, Dylan being a selfish cold jerk will break things off telling her He doesn’t love her anymore, her Aunt Stephanie will comfort her, even though I may not be big on Connor going to his apartment to confront him, yet Connor had a point about what He saw at the restaurant at least He was trying to spare Jessica,s feelings when He was dancing with her to keep her from seeing Dylan kissing her Mom! That’s beyond cruel & sick of Dylan what if Jessica would have seen them kissing! Luckily she missed it! You don’t do that on a double date! Then when Jessica ends up with Sly later on then Dylan is going to want her back after He realizes how He has hurt her the way He did ! Sly is only going to be interested in Jessica for the Forrester Family Funds & will plot to get her pregnant just as she & Dylan will be reuniting she is going to become aware of his scheme to get her pregnant, & Sly will find out that she was never pregnant & then rape her on the night of her & Dylan,s date night when He catches her alone outside the restaurant that will be some tense moments & scenes for her!
