Such a _great_ subtle detail that the moment Amber says that Becky has cancer, Stephanie's eyes go to the baby!
@NewYorkNick06076 ай бұрын
Yes! An example of something that probably wasn't in the script but was rather a good acting decision by Susan. It shows Stephanie's immediate concern and highlights the stakes of the storyline (Amber holding Little Eric feels prophetic too).
@NewYorkNick06076 ай бұрын
This Stephanie/Taylor scene is a type we've seen many times before where Stephanie is correct in her assessment of a threat (Brooke, Sheila, and now Morgan) but her advice isn’t heeded. But Morgan’s backstory makes this dynamic _not_ work as well as it has in the past. This time Stephanie has crucial information that she could deliver to Taylor and she's not doing so for no good reason. Indeed once she finds out that Ridge hasn’t told Taylor about the abortion, that should make her _even more_ suspicious that something is going on between Ridge and Morgan, that he’s keeping a secret from his wife - a kind of infidelity - and that should make her want to tell Taylor immediately. This storyline would work better if Morgan didn't have a past with Ridge and instead we saw her develop a single white female fixation on him. That way the show could mine this old dynamic where Stephanie perceives that Morgan is up to no good but can't prove it. For Stephanie to have this crucial information and not share it with Taylor is inexplicable. This time it’s not that she’s not being believed, it’s that she’s not coming clean.

Yes! In the Sheila storyline, the problem was that Stephanie sensed that there was a missing piece of the puzzle, but she didn't know what it was. This time she _does_ know what it is and there's no reason for her not to tell Taylor. I was kind of toying with the idea that what if they had made Morgan Deveney Dixon with a new face instead?

How Steph initially hung up on Amber and was about to close the door on her, is just how she should have walked away from 16 year old Morgan and told her to sort out her own problems. Bc clearly trying to help someone coming to you with a problem, just causes more problems for Steph.

The fact that a young woman as Amber understands she is the one to ask for help as she will fix it somehow, it makes me think about another young woman, Morgan who chose to tell Stephanie she was pregnant. *Becky's illness and Amber's redemption* The choice of point of view in this storyline is unusual because although Becky is the one who is ill, the story is being told from Amber's perspective. It is clear that this storyline isn't actually _about_ Becky, but about redeeming Amber (as *Nick* pointed out yesterday). Ever since the truth about Little Eric was revealed, Amber has been removed from the Forresters' orbit, and in order for her to stay viable, she needs to find a way back to them. That is the true purpose of this storyline - to bring Amber closer to the Forrester family again, and also to shift viewer sympathy back to Amber by letting us see her "selflessly" try to make her cousin's last months as happy as possible. There is a "glitch" in this storytelling though - Amber keeping Becky's health a secret from Becky, although well-intentioned, is _not actually the right or good thing to do._ It is not selfless and heroic, because it takes away Becky's chance of making her own decisions, including seeking second opinions and making plans for the baby's future, and choosing how to spend her remaining time. Also, it is difficult to dismiss that the obvious goal of this storyline is _Amber getting Little Eric back,_ which feels a little cyni cal (especially since there was an earlier scene when Becky literally said that Amber would only have her baby "over her dead body"). It feels less like a genuine redemption arc and more like Becky is being sacrificed to keep Amber relevant to the Forresters. Becky will die so that Amber can have a legitimate claim to the baby she stole from his real mother. And the thing is, _this wasn't necessary._ Amber was _already_ working her way towards redemption, even without this contrived plot point of her keeping Becky's illness a secret from Becky. If anything, Amber keeping yet another secret, and taking Becky's place yet again (as a patient rather than as a mother), undermines the narrative that she has learnt from her mistakes and grown as a person.

*Morgan following in Sheila's footsteps* Morgan and Ridge working closely together is the starting point for this storyline, just like Sheila and Scott working together was the starting point for Sheila's first storyline on Y&R. What happened next in Sheila's storyline was Sheila mani p u lating a situation where Scott slept with her, and she got pregnant. We're not there yet with Morgan, but her story is on the same path as Sheila's. And we also see this mirrored in Stephanie's warnings that Morgan is unstable, which is the same thing she used ot say about Sheila.
@NewYorkNick06076 ай бұрын
Yes and there's an interesting difference as well. From the very beginning Lauren didn't trust Sheila and went to war with her. For example, early on when Sheila didn't give Scott a message that Lauren had called for him at work, Lauren went to the hospital and called her out in front of everyone. There was never a moment where Sheila deceived Lauren with friendship the way Morgan is doing with Taylor; it was animosity and tension from the jump. On B&B though that tension exists instead in the scenes between Morgan and Stephanie. I've said before how Stephanie and Taylor often function as a unit (especially when defending Taylor's marriage) with Stephanie making the proactive and combative moves so Taylor can remain "good" and that's happening again here. Lauren was never a Good Girl so she could battle Sheila herself. (BTW Annie I tried to reply to your Becky/Amber post but the algo wouldn't let me. 😖 Needless to say I liked all the points you made!)
@annieo65276 ай бұрын

*RECAP FOR EPISODE 3277* Stephanie warns Taylor not to let her guard down with Morgan. Taylor insists that she can't protect her marriage if Stephanie won't tell her why she thinks Morgan is so dangerous. Taylor doesn't see anything sinister about Morgan and is sure she won't be causing any trouble. On the flight back to L.A., Morgan looks at pictures of Ridge's children. Morgan tells Ridge that he's an incredible man, and no man has ever made her feel the way that he did. Amber mixes Becky's medication into a smoothie and hopes she's doing the right thing by not revealing her condition. When Becky remembers that she needs to call Dr. Russell, Amber tells her quickly that the doctor already called and nothing is wrong. Amber is conflicted and needs to talk to someone. She calls Stephanie, who refuses to see her. Amber turns up on Stephanie's doorstep anyway, and stops Stephanie from closing the door in her face by blurting out that Becky has cancer. At work, Becky feels another stabbing pain in her lower back.
