I don't know if this is supposed to be romantic, but something about that scene seemed deliberately over the top - the blurry image, the light, Brooke's white dress, Thorne's absence of clothing. It was just _too much_ to be completely unironic. It actually supported the "fauxmantic heroine" narrative. (Especially since the dialogue was about Thorne's _wife_ conveniently agreeing to a divorce.)

Sally on Brooke: "The moral instincts of an alley cat!" Love it. Okay my take on these last 30 episodes. First what emotion! The becky story had me in tears a few times, notably CJs reaction and the wedding. And then seeing Macy fall apart, I know very well as I can relate to a very similar situation, becoming codependent on soneone you love and then having people around them undermine and make you feel threatened of which adds more fuel to then self destruct. Thorne made a huge mistake marrying her so quick, yet understandably had to break things off as staying in the marriage only became thee extra pressure on Macy to keep it together. As for Morgan I was completely with her up until the deception she committed to get pregnant by Ridge and use Taylor's message. She'd of had everything had she just went through the procedure as Taylor thought happened, but was caught up on her emotions to manipulate of which only further justified Stephanie's reaction. The way she treated Morgan in the past was abhorrent, however due to Morgan's own manipulation I see Stephanie's point. As for Brooke I have no words, yes Ridge tempted her in order for Thorne to see, but she took the bate. That makes Thorne a bigger fool because had Taylor and Ridge truly separated and Ridge truly came on to her, she'd of gone for it. These were the best years of the B&B and I'm continuing to watch them from here.
@annieo65278 ай бұрын
Note that when Thorne asks Macy for a divorce, he is _repeating Brooke's exact words_ (that he doesn't love Macy "the way a husband should love his wife") - indicating that he is not thinking independently but is, in fact, "under Brooke's spell" - just like John the AA counselor, a representative of the Invisible Narrator, _also_ used Brooke's phrase earlier that day. It's as if the show itself is repeating this phrase to make it true. And yet Macy immediately and furiousIy disproves this statement because she _knows_ it isn't true.

@@TriniT21 and he acts as though they aren't standing in the house where Thorne lived next door to Macy for the past two years just so he could be close to her (even though she was married to another man for part of that time). This whole storyline hinges on the viewer forgetting not only Thorne and Macy's past history but their _recent_ history as well. Until he randomly kissed Brooke a year ago, Thorne's life goal was getting back together with Macy. Only Macy is reminding the viewer of this (she remembers, even while drunk), while Thorne acts like it never happened.

@annieo65278 ай бұрын
*Macy as Cassandra* The portrayal of Macy here is a good example of the "unreliable narrative" the show is currently in. There is every indication in the writing that Macy is breaking down, that she is losing touch with reality and that her refusal to accept the end of her marriage is a sign of that. Yet, a year from now, the show's narrative will _align_ with Macy's narrative and retroactively prove her _right._ Like Cassandra, when Macy seems at her most deIusional in this scene she is actually _correctly predicting the future._ She says that Thorne and Brooke's relationship is just a passing phase, and she is right. And she is even foreshadowing her own fate when she says that she "would die for Thorne" (which we already know is true, because we have seen her risk her life for his sake before). This creates a strange discrepancy where, watching these episodes, there are two narrative "truths" - Macy's and Thorne's, and it is quite unclear which one we are _supposed_ to believe. Thorne's truth represents Brad Bell's writing in the year 2000, Macy's truth represents Brad Bell's writing a year later (as well as the writing _before_ the year 2000 - which Macy actually reminds us of in this scene by narrating their history). But the question is, was Macy always supposed to be proven right, or did Brad Bell eventually resign to this narrative in spite of himself, because the _characters_ lead him in that direction? Throughout her character history, Macy was always a reliable narrator (much more so than either Brooke or Thorne). Even now when she appears not to be, it's difficult to erase what we know about this character because we are _used_ to trusting her. On the other hand, this reliability only applies when Macy is sober, which she isn't now. So there really isn't a point of reference in this storyline where we can know the objective truth, because _all characters involved_ are unreliable - as is the writing itself. And this narrative vertigo manifests itself the most clearly in Macy, who is utterly disoriented and struggling to make sense of her storyline and herself. Macy is acting out of character, but she is also painfuIIy _aware_ that she is acting out of character. Throughout this storyline, we have Macy meta commenting on her own behavior, comparing it to her usual behavior, and not liking what she sees. Interestingly, this Cassandra role usually belongs to _Stephanie,_ and we see her *also* in this role in these episodes, but in the Morgan storyline, creating a connection between Macy and Stephanie.

@NewYorkNick06078 ай бұрын
Great analysis and I like the questions you raise. I strongly believe it's the latter, that Brad didn't plan for Macy to be proven right but the characters and soap storytelling inertia led him there. This happens a lot with Brad and his bad ideas. For example, the Massimo storyline where eventually they just pretend like that didn't happen and everyone acts like Ridge is still Eric's son after all.
@annieo65278 ай бұрын
@@NewYorkNick0607 yes, I agree. It feels as if Brad 🔔 tries to move the storyline in a certain direction, and only later becomes aware that it is not working because the characters don't _follow_ him, and then he goes back to allowing the characters to do what they "want" instead of what he tries to "make" them do. I've said before that Macy actually comes across as a more reliable narrator than Bell in this storyline, because she is consistent and keeps saying things we know happened (and will happen), while Brooke and Thorne's narrative clearly contradicts what we have seen on screen. And then something like that daydream happens which kind of feels like it subverts or even ridicuIes Brad 🔔's current narrative, whether or not it's intentional, and I have to wonder how he could _not_ have realized how it looked. I agree the Massimo plot is another great example of one of those things that were meant to change the direction of the show in a major way and then ended up in the "let's not speak of this ever again" category.
