It’s interesting to see how compelling Adult Bridget was from the beginning, and how much the voice of reason. Thorne talks about her like some spoiled, manipulative brat, but she’s not. Everything she says to Brooke is logical, clearheaded, ethical, and reasonable. Even when she threatens to leave, she doesn’t do it in a bratty way. She’s trying to set clear boundaries and consequences, a healthy thing to do when you’re dealing with a narcissistic family member. Of course, Brooke can’t deal with it and just tries to string her along. These recent episodes with Adult Bridget also make me wonder how far in advance the writers were planning the story of Breacon. I say that because many of the points Bridget has been making lately - particularly about how Brooke’s sexcapades affect her and Rick, and the humiliation they suffer as a result - closely echo points Bridget makes during her epic confrontation scenes with Brooke when she finds out who fathered Brooke’s baby. Those scenes, which I think are two years away, are the culmination of this story arc that begins here: the story of Brooke’s shenanigans hurting Bridget. Thorne was inconsiderate enough, but Deacon will be the absolute cruelest example of Brooke’s disregard for her daughter’s feelings when they conflict with her “heart.” The Brooke-Bridget scenes are also an illustration of something else I noted during the Macy vs Brooke/Thorne scenes, which is the conflict in writing. On the one hand, we have the show clearly trying to sell Brooke/Thorne as these fated lovers who are being kept apart by all these obstacles. At the same time, we have a strong, morally centered, reasonable character who acts as the voice of much of the audience in voicing opposition to the couple. First it was Macy, and now it’s Bridget. And both will ultimately be proven right.
@annieo65277 ай бұрын
Great points! Yes, the Bridget/Brooke scenes do echo the Macy/Brooke scenes. In both cases, the writers probably wanted us to see Bridget/Macy as "unreasonable children" objecting to Brooke and Thorne's true love. Bridget is supposedly too young to understand, and Macy was supposedly too drunk to understand. But instead the performances of Jennifer Finnigan and Bobbie Eakes were so good, and their portrayals of their characters so sympathetic, that we believe _them,_ not Brooke and Thorne.
@annieo65277 ай бұрын
No, Kimberly, Macy would not have been proud of you today. She would have been very very worried. As would your father, and Sally, and everyone else who _actually_ cares about you.
