*THE EVOLUTION OF BROOKE'S ARCHETYPE* The Brooke/Stephanie flashbacks not only remind us of their long feud but also of how far Brooke has come. Her trajectory is a classic archetype that Bill Bell likes to use: the girl from the wrong side of the tracks who makes it to the top of the social ladder through pluck and...something that rhymes with pluck. Nikki Newman and Jill Abbott on sister-soap Y&R are examples of this type too but Brooke represents an evolution from those earlier versions. Nikki was a literal stripper who married the richest man in town (Victor) and became a socialite. Her path to the top was solely through a man and she had little else to do once she got there except look down on those still behind and below her. Jill took a similar path, first by having an affair with Katherine Chancellor's husband and then when he died and Jill got nothing, by going after John Abbott, a wealthy and respected patriarch. But Jill still went a step further than Nikki in that she ingratiated herself with the Chancellors first as a manicurist, a working class job, rather than literally selling her body like Nikki (although once Jill was in the Chancellor mansion she had no problem using those assets to snare Phillip Chancellor). Also unlike Nikki, Jill eventually became a respected and talented businesswoman and key player in Jabot and Newman Enterprises. And now Brooke represents the next step in that evolution. Even though she was a social striver equally entranced by the rich and famous, Brooke was not quite as downtrodden as Nikki and Jill. She was from a middle class family and as a chemist, Brooke was coded as educated and upwardly mobile from the start, a part of the new professional class of women that was prevalent in the 90s. Indeed while she had some of the sensual talents of Nikki and Jill (and not afraid to use them), Brooke proved to be equally talented in her professional field as well and it was her work in the lab as much as her marriage to Eric that put her on the trajectory where she would eventually take over Forrester. It's just so interesting to study these three characters and see the similar archetype they inhabit and story function they serve, while also noting the evolution of that type and modernizing of that story in keeping with the changing times.

These scenes show Stephanie and her cruelty and still missing a lot of the hot and cold crazy behavior she had towards Brooke when she was staying at the mansion. A late forties/early fifties woman who hates a 22 year old girl just because she wanted her mother to have another chance with her college love, and encouraged it (instead of confronting the mother and her husband she had to terrorize and threaten the girl, again a girl who could have been her daughter) and the girl's other crime, wanting to be with her son. All that, before herhusband fell for the girl, the hatred was there already. Brooke deserves this revenge so much, and Stephanie does not deserve another break from Brooke, which she will get anyway because Brooke is a far better person than her. And no, just because Stephanie had less sex ual partners than Brooke, it doesn't make her more ethical. Her behavior towards a young girl without any consideration for her psychology is almost criminal.
@andream5998 Жыл бұрын
And this so called "poor" girl did not do anything wrong, right? Brooke did enough to Stephanie and more importantly to Caroline and her own mother. Brooke is a user and taker and a manipulator. The little crybaby and fake tear tear crying sftv. Brooke had no business of interfering in Rigde's and Caroline's and also Stephanie's and Erics relationship. She acted also so entitled and disrespectful. Brooke has the psychology of a narcissist and cray psychopath. And we wanna forget all the times when stephanie did give her a chance to redeem herself and also try to help her to end up with rigde. She was also nice and supportive of Brooke at times. Stephanie disliked her in the beginning, but the real hatred begun with brooke nailing Eric. Simple solution for Brooke, don't stay in someone's house where the owner doesn't like and welcomes you. Move out. Don't act like entitle, smug and vindictive little brat. Very simple. And like Brooke wasn't cruel, hurtful or disrespectful to Stephanie. She was. And Brooke is a terrible woman, mother, sister, daughter and friend. She is a disgusting person. Brooke did not consider the psychology of any either - not Caroline's, her mother's, her children's, her sisters, no ones. Brooke is the original tramp and Gold digger and narcissist. She only ever cared about herself and just herself. And that makes her an awful person. Stephanie is far better than Brooke.
@annieo6527 Жыл бұрын
But those were not all the reasons for Stephanie's dislike of Brooke. Yes, the first reason was Brooke's support of Beth's affair with Eric. Then there was her hiding Caroline's letter (which Stephanie knew about). Then there was her moving into Stephanie's house without Stephanie's approval. These things combined - Brooke dating Ridge and living in the Forrester mansion while rooting for the disintegration of the Forrester family and keeping Caroline's letter from Ridge gave Stephanie good reason to dislike Brooke. Brooke claimed to love Ridge while doing _two_ things that hurt him behind his back (intercepting his love letter to Caroline, supporting Eric leaving Stephanie). And then there was Eric leaving her for Brooke at a time when Stephanie believed her marriage was finally back on track (and Eric never even told Stephanie the reason why he wanted the divorce).
@marn25 Жыл бұрын
@@andream5998 Most of those flashback scenes were before Eric happened. And no Brooke is not innocent, but her misdeeds did not deserve such cruelty. Concerning Caroline, Caroline herself made sure Brooke paid for her misdeed, after Brooke herself admitted it to her. Stephanie never used that against Brooke surprisingly, maybe because she wasn't sure. If by saying she was supportive to Brooke to be with Ridge during the Caroline times, that was actually worse, because she would be supportive one day and then throw insults again, sometimes even in the same conversation. Saying thank you to Brooke about something and then start yelling at her. Stephanie can be so unstable and uncontrollable. Even if Brooke has done a lot through the years, Stephanie's behaviors and actions against her, made Brooke look like an angel (which she isn't)
@marn25 Жыл бұрын
@@annieo6527 I think Stephanie did a lot more than just dislike Brooke. But really what did she expect. For Brooke to "tell on her mother"? The letter thing Stephanie suspected, she was not sure about at the time, otherwise she would also use that on all the things she accused Brooke of. And she never did to Brooke's face, The moving in I agree with, and even then Stephanie was not always clear of what she wanted, I remember Brooke telling Stephanie, if I remember right, on the day she moved in that she'd go if Stephanie wanted, and Stephanie wouldn't answer, because of the Caroline/Ridge/Thorne thing. And even though I also disagree with Brooke moving there, it WAS at Ridge's insistence and invitation. Perhaps Brooke could have played it differently but still. Eric had decided to leave Stephanie (the second time) because he found out from Brooke about the Paris affair and Beth Logan. It was irrelevant to his love for Brooke. Perhaps his love for Brooke gave him a motive to want the divorce even more. It is still Brooke who informed him about Stephanie's deeds and she did absolutely right. Even though it was Donna's idea to tell him, I am still glad Brooke did and Stephanie was outed.

@marn25 Жыл бұрын
If Brooke was vindictive, she would start working on a revenge back in around 1988. And in spite of what she is doing now, it won't last too long because Brooke doesn't have it to be evil and vindictive. She will keep forgiving a lot of cr ap from Stephanie through the years. I will never forget how Stephanie tried to take her children away through court and did, and Brooke's reaction was to go to the mental hospital to help her come out of it when she was poisoned with mercury. Or when Stephanie paid her grandson to lie that he and Brooke made love, and Brooke's revenge was for Stephanie to apologize with a song, A SONG! And countless others.

@@annieo6527 Yep, it is true, it was always fueled by her losing or not winning Ridge. Also because Stephanie liked to torment her whenever something like that would happen, so I can see sort of why that would open up more bad memories for her and Stephanie. The example you mention about her wanting to give back the shares when she was married to Ridge, show that she is not vindictive for ever and is generous by nature. I mean she had Ridge already thought she was in a marriage with him, she didn't need to offer the stock back to marry him. And as far as I know Ridge did not pressure her, it was her idea.

@@sharonstewart4882 I guess I don’t. I guess I have to continue to hear you whine, like you have to hear Brooke. Will you stop watching when Taylor dies next year.🤞 I can’t imagine the Brooke haters will stay.

@@sharonstewart4882 I guess it’s because you never have any positive feedback about any of the characters, you just complain. I like all of the characters even Taylor & Stephanie. Believe me if there was a way to block you I would. I started watching this before you joined. Unfortunately, your comments come up first. I can’t miss them if I try.

Stephanie just tells Brooke reality. Brooke does just use her children. 🥹 Of course Brooke doesn’t live or believe in reality.

Taylor, why are you showing up at Brooke's door unnanounced again? Ups, I forgot: your haters wouldn't have anything to rant about...(sarcasm off) LOL.....🙈

And why people who dislike each others have any kind of conversations? Ups I forgot: it's a soap. 😉

@@babs4848 don't worry, I'll never forget that it's only a soap. But there are others on here that could be reminded of that from time to time! Mind you, I'm just stating my opinion, just like you and everyone else on here. No big deal...!🙈😂

Everybody looks gorgeous in bb early 90s, so far the best original soap, compared to late 2020s soaps,not so original
