BOLENS HT20 REVIVAL - Tires, Fuel Pump, Tuning and Other Directionless Tinkering.

In this episode, I get my vintage 1973 Bolens HT20 garden tractor looking and running factory-fresh with a happy little spa day. This includes some new tires, a fuel pump, carburetor tuning, a new decal set and some minor cosmetic enhancement.
Sorry, Volvo fans. The current episode of the diesel 740 restoration is taking WAY longer than expected, so I'm tagging in a backup filler video to t=keep the almighty algorithm happy. (245 diesel build coming very soon)

We are always working on Bolens even though we are in the UK, I think we have about 40 in our collection. We have used David Brown Orchid white which appears to be a good match. We have added a fuel primer bulb to our HT's to reduce the load on the starter as the fuel like to return to the tank, I think we did a video about it. The new decals and the tractor look great

Love the old Bolens large frame tractors! Nice videos of you working on yours! Like to see some pulling action.... maybe move a few vehicles around and see what it takes to stop it. Also... regular lighter fluid for Zippo lighters is your best friend when removing any kind of stickers or decals... trust me!

@@bakedbeansgarage116 Awesome! I actually just drove an hour and a half one way and picked up a near mint Bolens large frame 1250 today. I'm in central Kentucky btw. I had one right at 20 years ago, but I traded it off because I was a teenager and my interest changed a lot back then, lol. It's a nostalgic thing for me... but I also love it because it's a beast and very well built!

Nice HT20! Your touches made her look real pretty. What's on the front PTO? It looks to be braced on there. Is it a hydraulic pump?

It is, I suspect someone ran it pretty hard. I'm just gonna fix it once it gives up all together.

Not being a smartass, just curious as to why you used the propane torch on the front rims? Was that to help burn off stubborn paint?

Valid question! It both burns off remaining skin oils and heats the metal to open up the pores and suck the paint in. It results in a more durable finish.
