Iv been a volunteer firefighter for 9 years. Fast knock down. Didn’t look like anyone got hurt. Officer giving his firefighters clear orders so they know who’s doing what before they arrive. The only thing I can say was the other engine blocked the ladder truck from the front of the house. But then again this department May do things different. So great job all. Stay safe and thank you for EVERYTHING you all do
@haroldenglish943

My thoughts as well about blocking not just the ladder but any additional units coming in. The engine was already designed as a supply engine so move up to stage closer but far enough to allow truck/ladder to get good position and start running supply lines to attack engine and truck.

@JJGeneral1
@JJGeneral1 5 жыл бұрын
DC-8 Tailpost nah, you definitely don’t know how rural departments work. No one is paid. That’s why it’s called “company” at the end. Volunteer fire company. The entire organization, from board of directors to line officers, all non paid. You really think they “work for you”? Most of these departments get ZERO FUNDING through taxes to operate and have to spend the majority of their time fundraising to just keep the lights on. They have to apply for, and fight one another, for grants to get bits of equipment at a time updated to today’s standards. You certainly don’t know about this, and it’s showing.

Quick attack??? Come to Australia we have attack line out and showing water under 40 seconds from on scene.
@ThatGuyA300
@ThatGuyA300 5 жыл бұрын
That may be so in Australia, but here in Chester County that is a very quick attack especially for a volunteer department. This may be the case for most of Chester County’s fire departments as most are all volunteer and are unable to leave quick enough with a full crew. I would know being a West Chester firefighter, sometimes we only get a 4-man crew in the engine including driver and officer, and it becomes difficult to deploy an attack line that quick with that little people. Paid departments are different as they have people who are paid to staff the station and run calls. They will get full crews out very quickly. But most of our volunteer companies usually have people that run calls from their houses. So they will be dispatched from their house to go to the firehouse to gear up and respond.

Just curious why the attack engine didn't pull past? Knowing the truck was coming, they should have pulled past, left the front open, the supply engine could have gone nose to nose with attack engine. Not trying to be snotty, but is that this FD's SOP? Just curious.

Some do argue that's the biggest drawback to the transverse since it tends to lure Engines into the pocket where you'd traditionally stage a ladder... that certainly seems to be the case in this video. I don't think it ends up being detrimental but does make the point.

FireDude513 no I meant transverse... when an engine operator lines up the preconnects so they can be deployed straight out of the beds it typically puts the engine in a space that obstructs the ladder from being in the often ideal location...

Pressure was probably fine actually but take a look at the hose... was kinked in about 10 different places from the deployment. So I asked myself what the dude on his knees right next to the hose was doing and I admit I put my judgment cap on... That dude was on his knees putting his mask / helmet on for well over a minute... meanwhile the camera guy had deployed the line and got that initial water flowing in half that time... and nobody straightened the line out for him. I'll take my judgment cap off when I say this- but that basic donning / doffing program needs to be screwed on tight otherwise other aspects of the call will suffer. In this case, instead of being able to unkink the line the guy is busy trying to square himself away. Meanwhile I have no clue what was going on with the first due line... If I had to guess I know it's not uncommon for the operators to go and try and secure the hydrant supply first, prior to charging the attack line. If that was indeed the case I hope the responding department takes a look at that and makes some adjustments to their training. You've got between 5-8 minutes of water on the truck and you're not getting paid more to bring it all home. Use it... and while it's being used sort out your hydrant supply. There was literally minutes of water application lost and with what looked to me like unidirectional flow indications coming from that front window there's no doubt that furnace is on full blast. And let me be clear about one other thing- few departments of any description are doing a lot of fires anymore and as a result things get rusty and little mistakes happen... But we all need to take some responsibility for our own programs and if someone I worked with took over a minute to mask up while I did all the work you can bet they'd hear about it.

@@FromGamingwithLove0456 I definitely agree about using onboard water! When I engineered a truck, the first thing I did outside was to open the tank dump valve. I usually had pressure on the outlets within 20-30 seconds of my boots hitting the ground. I also agree about straightening out the kinks in the line. If you pull a preconnect and get spaghetti, straighten it out before taking it to the fire!
@RespectableRSYt

@@kenmeinken8115 Same on tank water, but i'm from urban rural combo and got my starts on 100% no hydrant are, water shuttles all day. I used to have my first attack line flowing and if tender arrived with the engine I wouldn't even be half empty by the time the crew had a drop tank setup. With enough practice you could crack open the inlet with some prime and draft water without losing pressure.

In addition to the things already mentioned- particularly with a fog nozzle of the type used in the video you can verify a few things including the pattern shape and that it isn't partially blocked, as well as pressure of the line. If they anticipate going indoors sometimes the guy on the nozzle will ask for the operator to keep the pressure down a bit to make hoses a little easier to maneuver around tight corners. This is done with the potential risk of increasing the likelihood of kinks but it depends on how the company / department train.

OH, time to put on my helmet now, wait , more leaves means more horn! WOW cars ahead as I turn but no leaves so nothing to do. Should I put my helmet on now? No, but it feels great in my hands! I see leaves but there is traffic so I change tactics from reaching for horn to grabbing for microphone! Let's talk on the radio. I see a car so is it ok to pull the horn now with no leaves blowing? I better do it! My hat feels so good in my hand I just wish that I had some cream to rub on it and put some on my hair to keep it nice, I am on TV now after all! Pull the horn! Ok I put on hat now, I feel confident it is time. OK time to get out but damn the seat belt wont come with me. Can't do anymore. My comments above are purely brother firefighting fun. These guys got there and got the fire out. I always welcome critique of my fire ground operations. SpawnerismHD Films Instead of just judging me why not ask the question why? Because it’s easier to leave a flippant answer? I live in a small town. I tried to join the department. I wanted to be on the airpac team. I wanted to be the one with the hose fogging while entering. I had the paperwork filled out and ready. The captain had me all set up for a fire science course at University of Texas. My father put an end to it. Unofficially in as few terms as possible it was said he told them their funding would be halved if they accepted me. And he could spin it and they knew he could spin it. So I got sidelined. But yea like you said I guess it’s easier to just complain then make a department hire me and lose half it’s manpower and even more of its equipment budget. 😐

Amazing as it sounds but a siren can get masked by the soundproofing of today's cars and if the driver has music playing the tones can get lost. An agreesively used air horn is a lot harder to ignore, but some drivers and pedestrians still manage to do it. I think that it might come down to vehicle manufacturers being forced to modify car systems to include a warning system for emergency services vehicles. Something like the radio repeater overlay system used by road tunnel control rooms to provide warning messages to drivers.

There's a saying that a duck's quack doesn't echo and nobody knows why... well the same can be true of the air horn- it probably echoes a bit but regardless sirens can be very difficult to localize... much more so than the air horn. The air horn can provide that blast of white noise that does help to indicate the direction of approach better than the siren alone. I don't generally watch the runs in so it may have been excessive in this case?
