The man appeared on indian screen in 1944 and worked till 1998. In a career spanning almost 5 decades ( Dilip sahab took break from movies for 5 years in between)...no one...not even a single actor, in any form of cinema in india, from any region in the country...ever dared to call himself a better actor than the Dilip kumar. Imagine, the amount of movies that must have been made in these 49 years, with the number of actors working in it...No one..not even a single actor had the audacity to declare himself better. We the commen people, may not know much about the nuances of acting, but those who have been associated with this art form and are masters, themselves...gave him the respect, that no body else could ever achieve. If that is not the proof of his dominance, then i dont know what else is. If hollywood can call charlie chaplin, its icon...Dilip kumar is our own national treasure. I seriously think, government of India should consider giving bharat ratna to dilip kumar, cuz if any other actor ever got it before him, it will be an insult and mockery of such a prestigious award. Dilip Kumar was the one and only true badshah and/or shehan shah of Indian cinema..

Sanjeev Kumar did claim after Vidhata, that he got the better of Dilip Kumar in a clash scene. But I believe in that scene the odds were stacked in Sanjeev’s favour. No doubt Dilip Kumar was a great actor. But some people are going a bit overboard due to their emotions. I believe Samita Patil once said Dilip Kumar is not such great actor, he is a great personality. When Amitabh Bachan says that history of Indian cinema will be written as before Dilip Kumar and after Dilip Kumar, I suppose that settles it.

Calm down.. Sanjeev Kumar was a better actor than Dilip kumar. Nothing taking away from Dilip kumar as he was a phenomenal actor but Even Dilip Kumar himself used to say this. Sanjeev Kumar was in his own league. Om puri, Naseeruddin shah, Irrfan khan, even amitabh bachchan as well... i found these actors better than Dilip kumar.
