Bolt Action Played In 15mm " Is it better ?"

Is Bolt Action better played in 15mm scale? These are the questions I asked myself. I tried it and might be shocked what I have found out. Watch and see as I explain the reasons Why I play Bolt Action in 15mm.

When Bolt Action came out I set out playing it in 15mm using individually based Flames of War and Peter Pig miniatures. It’s brilliant for all the reasons you state. I still play Bolt Action, Chain of Command, Battlegroup and Normandy Firefight in 15mm. Opponents are slightly harder to find but the smaller size and lower costs means you can own both sides!

Playing Bolt-Action in 15mm cleans up my least favorite thing about Bolt Action - the fact that at 28mm the ranges and movement just feel off. I don't change anything else, since I base as single minis and teams.

Not into Bolt Action but I gave up on 28mm for my American Revolution Black Powder/Sharp Practice project for 10mm scale. I actually prefer the 10mm as it looks like proper regiments on the tabletop and I use 6mm buildings to add scale to the battlefield. I was humming and harring about Old West stuff and 28mm Old West requires stupid terrain storage space. Whereas 15mm Old West stuff you can easily get a full Wild West town on a 4x4 tabletop.

Just looking to get into Bolt Action, I've heard about using 15mm, but wasn't sure about the cost savings. That was until you pointed out the Plastic Soldier Company, that makes it so much more affordable. Thanks for that.

15mm allows for more game play and takes up far less space and tends to be my go to as well.

I went into BA years ago, but didn't have the space, money, and time to build and play 28mm size units. But with 3D printing (Lots of free WW2 vehicle files available) and purchasing some FOW figs in 15MM scale it makes it affordable and fit my smaller table.

We’re wargamers unpainted figures always outnumber painted figures, often because we don’t have an opponent ☹️ Too fat Lardies have a conversion to solo play for Chain of Command rules WWII platoon size rules I’ll have to look up the magazine it was in. It , with very little thought works for rules like bolt action.

Had intentions of doing this a long time ago. This video came up in my feed and was happy to see others have had the same idea! I absolutely love this idea. I’m always the guy stocking the games arsenal for the family and friends I game with. So that being said I could build several armies for everyone playing BA in 15mm!

Very good. there are many rules this can apply to eg team yankee and flames fo war should be played in 6mm.

Have just ordered "The gentlemans war" starter pack as well as some books and stuff to have a crack at Bolt Action, but already pondering trying it in 10 mm... Its a size/cost thing. I have some rather lovely colonial 10 mm Pendrakens from earlier, so not to worried about that scale. I think about gettting a grasp on the game mechanics and rules in 28mm, and when a sound understanding of the game is there, scale down.

I do all my wargaming in 1/72 (25mm) and get all the benefits you mentioned, and still have a man for man BA / CoC. I think 28mm (1/64) is a new scale to avoid attempting to compete with the smaller and wider available scales. Do what works for you?

I do play with 1/72 soldiers 15 mm tanks by Zvezda and also have used Roco vehicles . I believe it’s 1/87. You mentioned that you play solo . What rules do you use ? Thanks for the video

You could roll a dice with how many guys are in the squad first. D6 or Maybe get a d10,15 etc and that way u can cover all the amounts. That would tell u ur hits and then roll for the wounds like regular if that makes sense.

This is interesting... I also prefer smaller scales for most things, and to see someone else using bolt-action rules for smaller models is really cool! Difference is, I was using airfix 1/72 tanks and infantry at the time, but that was a huge mistake. I just got my first "Flames of War" kit, (The $30 get started kit) and I loved the models! They are such higher quality, and I imagine the infantry are the same. Airfix uses this garbage waxy plastic for their infantry kits, and the paint rubs off them too easy to play with...

I'm just getting started in tabletop wargaming, and I decided to go with 1:72 scale because it seemed like the most plentiful scale. However, I'm starting to kick myself because most figures in 1:72 are really cartoony and chunky looking, which I hate, and the kits that aren't cartoony just dont have all the unit types that I want. And 1:72 is just more expensive, which matters a lot for me, because I'm on a tight budget and can't afford hundreds of dollars on this stuff. I'm just using self made cardstock scenery and buildings, designed in GIMP and printed, cut, glued, and colored with pencil. But anyways, it seems like Plastic Soldier Company has literally every kind of unit I want in 1:100 scale (15mm), and at great prices from Hobby Bunker (like 18 cents per figure and 5$ per vehicle).

Another Idea is invest in a 3d printer or resin printed which you could print you own soldiers for pennies. Plus thingiverse has tons of free terrain you can print. Just a idea to help out. Ty for watching appreciate it.

If you want beautiful 20mm WW2 miniatures I can recommend AB Figures (sold by Eureka in the U.K.) or Adler Miniatures 20mm. I’m a 15mm die hard and these two ranges are very, very nice.
