Thanks for uploading the beautiful video of the most dangerous river THE STRID ....,

Thank you.... I was at this place 60 years ago. The Strid I remember but the Abbey has totally flown my memory.... perhaps wiped out by Whitby, Rievaulx and Fountains but sad to have lost it.

I wanna rig up a mannikin with pressure gauges, gps transmitter, audio and video recording devices and a life jacket and toss it in. Whose with me?
@user-tb2jy9lu3d4 жыл бұрын
I'm way late, but I doubt that GPS would have a signal. As soon as it was thrown in, it would be pushed down under the water and whisked left or right into an underwater cave underneath who knows how many feet of thick rock on three sides. Probably wouldn't be able to get the dummy back out, either.

Water is deadly anywhere and some far worse than others those who dismiss the warnings are those that have drowned, the strid is such a place to much power forced into narrow passages and deep at least 30 ft in places, what you don't see on the surface its below where the death is death in a cement mixer and stuck way under the rocks either side of the strid

I'd be very surprised if a team hasn't put a mini submersable down there. It looks like an awesome place for scientific exploration.

The youtuber Jack A Snacks put a camera down on a rope with a light on it and recorded about 30+ feet down. Billions of bubbles everywhere just feet below the surface mean that anything that falls in just above the falls would sink due to the high oxygenation of the water in which nothing can really float. As the bubbles rise, other things on top of them sink. He also did sonar that indicated ridiculous depths in some areas. I want to say it was like 90 meters, but I can't remember the exact number. If you search for Karst landscapes around the world, you'll find images like this: i1.wp.com/www.circleofblue.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/GlobalKarst-1000.jpg It's likely what the Strid looks like and how it is so deep.

This part of the river Wharfe has been known to kill a lot of folk, it loks tempting, but the stones are slippery even in summer. Not worth the risk, even for an athlete!!
