the reason why the 230 tack didnt fully defend is because the botton right blade is useless thus reducing his dmg output. additionally there is just one blade using his full potential (the right blade) as he fully covers the track. thats why the position in the middle of the map is the best (at least 2 full potential blades + gwens buff)

I think it's more of a cleanup for the "insides" of the purples in this case. Since the blade shooter can pop off the purple layer but can't really pop the rest inside the purple on it's own.
