Hey everyone, yet again thanks for watching. I'll always appreciate the support. Originally, I wanted this close to the game's release but it got swapped around for others that I had in production. I know this doesn't go into absolutely everything about Bomb Rush (combat, story, minute details of music) but I really just wanted to talk about why I loved the game, and this video's already pretty big. Story and combat are two things I didn't have the strongest opinions on in BRC, and with music I'm sure there's someone out there way more musically adept to talk about that. Next video is gonna be a big one, it's been a while since I've looked at an RPG and this is a series that I've wanted to do for a while.

As someone who hasn't even played Jet Set Radio. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk just looked like a fun old-school style game with its charm that definitely looked eye-candy to me and playing it now, it is one of my favorite games in recent memory due to the breeze of doing chain combos while collecting or completing stuff, but it doesn't feel so brain-dead because doing moves like hard cornering, manual, or boost makes maintaining the flow so gratifying. I miss this kind of simplicity of using your traversal movement as the main gameplay loop at its core which makes games like Marvel’s Spiderman games or Sonic Frontiers that have fun movement needlessly add stuff that halts the pacing that no matter how much I enjoy then, it still a pace breaker. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk doesn’t suffer from this because it knows its simplicity and therefore, the flow keeps going right to the end
@DR3ADER111 ай бұрын
The traversal and physics are leagues better than both Jet Set games, which people (both critics and players alike) have described as slow, heavy, clunky and very strange, particularly when performing certain jumps and wall runs(which isn't in any way, shape or form like real life inline skating/rollerblading, as the actual sport is very lightweight, fast and precise). Also helps that the timer is absent and there's no fall damage, only a fall timer which only occurs when you go out of bounds or fall into water (because like the Jet Set games and the Tony Hawk games, none of the playable characters can swim more than two nanometers without sinking like stones a la Claude, Crash, Vercetti and the average Inkling/Octoling). Also helps that my experience in the Burnout games enables me to move across the map without losing my score (excluding that bloody moving triple rail platform in Mataan, which always fucks me over because the railings can send me backwards or too short of the adjacent platform during a large score chain and it sucks balls...) PLUS, you can use the afterburner button to reset your manual gauge infinitely as long as you have enough fuel for your boost meter or if you are able to rotate the character downhill, then uphill on a slope using the analogue stick or the directional keys whilst performing a manual.

Something very special I found with this game is just how much personality each character has. They’re all punks, but they’re all a different version of a punk. They all have mannerisms that make them feel distinct, and they all get a chance to show their lovable personalities. Tryce is the chillest dude I’ve seen in video game, Bel is bubbly and adorable, and even Red has a personality with him being an outgoing and determined dude who wants to get to the bottom of everything. The protagonist has a personality that’s awesome. You can really feel the skater punk vibe each of the characters show off.

Something I found really special about BRC, as a dancer myself (I mainly do breaking, and I've taken a few classes for all of the styles in game), is that I was happy to see how well it was integrated into this game's world and aesthetic. It probably also helped that it ca the director's personal experience learning how to break and other styles in his youth.

The world, controls, characters, story, and the music are incredible imo. I played it on release date on steam and beat the game in a couple days. I told myself I wouldn't play it anymore for a while because I didn't want to burnout my love for it. Lol. I just started playing again last week and wow I'm even more impressed now. Just came here to say, after beating the game, that going up stairs is easy af mate, you can switch gear mid manual, or the easier alternative to just jump and take it off, hold manual and spam boost trick, then after you climb the stairs, keep holding manual/slide until you see the animation, jump, take your gear on, and manual boost trick if you can't find some place to reset the combo, did the whole stair thing in Mataan first try man

When playing the original Jet Set Radio. The controls aren't clunky. If anything slippery. But, it isn't hard to get used to, especially since there are very little moves. There is a jump, boost, move stick, and an action/camera reset button. Very simple to grasp. Jet set Radio Future is similar, but is a lot more responsive, it does not feel slippery like the first game. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. I can't comment on as I haven't played it. My only genuine complaint with Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the lack of an ongoing post-game score challenge. After you've recruited every rival gang member to your crew, the game no longer has any way to impose some type of limit on your combo. This makes playing to max out your personal high scores feel hollow, since without any specific time limit or goal to reach, you could just pop around collecting multipliers for a few minutes, then find a convenient closed loop and just mash the trick buttons until you get bored. All it really needs is the option to replay that final score challenge or some variation thereof. Put one of the oldheads in the spot where the rival used to be and have us try to reach the x-million points as fast as possible. Or challenge us to get the highest score we can in the full 300 seconds. Or give us a specific series of tricks/tags/enemies to hit while maintaining a combo and maxing your score within a time limit. Anything, really. The point is that without some way to force your combo to end, your current high score is just a measure of patience, not skill. The very minor addition of a perpetual post-game score challenge would change that, and really should have been in the game to begin with.

I'll agree that I like the music more in JSR and JSRF. While I do like the music in BRC, it's hard to beat JSR. With the level design, I guess it depends on what you're going for. I'm a bigger fan of the OG JSR with its score attack gameplay, and I feel like BRC is a bit better at that than JSRF. But if we're talking about the single-player main campaign, then I'd probably give JSRF the leg up there.
@DR3ADER111 ай бұрын
The greater advantage BRC has over the Jet Set games is that (at least on the PC/Steam version) you can mod in your own custom soundtrack, be it via Spotify or via your own computer's hard drive. As the devs, being Dutch (and therefore, pro-modding, because that's the culture of Central Europe's computer game industry, as that region's background is in the Demoscene of the late-1980s to mid-1990s) actively encourage user-generated material and content within reason.
