10:21 Stormtroopers weren't really drafted lol, they were either volunteers or high scoring academy cadets who were given the opportunity. The lore is pretty clear about stormtroopers being elite troops even if Filoni portrays them as useless morons. The movies (excluding the Death Star scene) give stormtroopers at least a 64% accuracy rate, and the lore itself says 77% accuracy. When you combine that with excellent armour and at least a decade of gruelling training, the only reason they would be below the clones in effectiveness is because they aren't genetically modified and aren't as experienced in direct combat, but given how much cheaper everything about stormtroopers are, it is worth it.

A good comparison between the Imperial army/navy troopers and stormtroopers during the early empire would be the Hastati and the Triarii of Rome, with Triarii being experienced and veteran troops and the Hastati being less experienced and less valuable. During the late Empire stormtroopers become omnipresent and less well trained in the Empire because of how rampant terrorist attacks became, taking on a more similar role to Roman legionaries and the Imperial army forces were essentially like Roman auxiliary forces, so they would fill out niche specialised roles. For example the army continued to provide most vehicle and medic support to the stormtroopers and small army units would become attached to larger stormtrooper units, just like auxiliaries would for legionaries. However, in space the Imperial navy constantly relied on the Stormtroopers to act as marine forces and protect their ships, and according to Legends sometimes special divisions of shock troopers would even be assigned to ISDs. Navy troopers were poorly equipped and mostly guarded less important systems ceremonially while stormtroopers would be called in if there was a real crisis.

11:00 stormtroopers were *not* troops of the Imperial army. The stormtrooper corps were the elite of the elite, called in due to crises. The navy did not generally work with the army composed of mostly Outer Rim lower class people because the Navy were very classist and stuff, which apparently stemmed from Republic traditions. The stormtrooper corps were the only real soldiers on board naval vessel, if I'm honest fleet troopers were mostly ceremonial and only in the Outer Rim were they actually used as soldiers.

So, I feel like a huge nerd by saying this, but the Imperial Army and Stormtrooper Corps are two different things. The difference is similar to that of the US Army and the Marines. The Stormtroopers are infantry centric, while the army deals more with vehicles, though this does not mean that it’s mutually exclusive obviously.

Yeah you are missing some I'm not sure if my list includes any you mentioned or if theres more but here are the ones I found: Purge Troopers (Anoat Sector). When mentioning undead Troopers you didn't show the scout undead Trooper. Rocket Stormtrooper from Jedi games. Shield Trooper but you did mention riot Troopers I think. Crimson Stormtrooper which is only Canon as a hasbro action figure. Sc Art they were in the Comics known as Scar Squadron. Lava Trooper they were on Mustafa with Vader. Storm Commando. Stormtrooper Grenadier. I'm not sure if you're missing any of the heavy weapons Stormtroopers including armoured stormtrooper. Spacetrooper episode 4 film. When the Millennium Falcon is being brought into the Death Star hangar you can see two spacetroopers. Recon stormtrooper I'm not sure that's Canon its in Galaxy of Heroes apparently. Rocket Trooper. Even if you think you've included any of these still check them as they may be similar but different.

I wouldn't consider it 100% canon even if its on the wiki under canon. Always think "could this trooper/ship ... etc appear in a new show or movie" if the answer is yes its canon until proven otherwise, if no, legends until proven otherwise

10:19 "Conscript" means forcefully enlisted. Also, they first appeared in Return of the Jedi. The AT-STs were under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Army. Thus they had army trooper drivers. 10:58 Stormtroopers are part of the stormtrooper corps. Yes, even in canon. They are neither navy or army. Okay by the time we get to mudtroopers and security troopers I had to look this up. Yes, they are backed up by official sources. But there is no way whoever is writing their Databank entries isn't high on something. They are both Imperial Army trooper variants. Or at least they were until someone with too much power decided they weren't. This video is so all over the place and I know it's not all Andrew's fault. The sources are just that bad. The Disney Interactive mobile games are notorious for having lazy designs for units. The "Phase 2 Dark Trooper" in Star Wars Commander is a low poly Imperial Purge Trooper from The Force Unleashed with a few tweaks. The stormtrooper sniper with the blue pauldron is also from a Legends game originally. The artillery stormtrooper is also from that same Legends game. The "Stormtrooper commander" section shows a commander with a red pauldron and claims it is orange. It is not. There are at least four pauldron colors in canon and they all indicate different rank. There's black, white, orange, and red. Though sources seem to not corroborate their associated ranks well. Shadowtroopers from Battlefront EA are basically non-canon because Death Troopers became the new hot sh-t and if you wanted to be with the cool kids you stopped playing with shadow troopers despite Death Troopers just being a 12 year old's edgier depiction of shadow troopers. They have the exact same role as shadowtroopers did. Only they're specific to the ISB instead of Imperial Intelligence... no they're not the same thing. What do you mean the new canon says they're the same thing? MOTHERF- !

I take a number of issues with this outline. For starters, anything in the Imperial army is simply NOT a stormtrooper, nor were they lower ranking stormtroopers. That’s like calling a US Army trooper a lower ranking US Marine. They’re completely separate branches of military. This distinction is pretty big, but a lesser mistake that is more understandable is calling Imperial Navy Troopers or Death Troopers Stormtroopers. Imperial Navy is, obviously, part of the Navy which makes more sense but is still like calling a US Navy Soldier a Marine. The Death Troopers work directly for the ISB which is a separate intelligence agency within the Empire. That would be like calling a KGB agent a Soviet army trooper. In addition to the issue with calling Army Troopers low ranking storm troopers, calling an officer a type of Stormtrooper just doesn’t make any sense. It’s a rank not a variation. Next, just because SWBFII’s campaign is cannon doesn’t automatically make everything in the game cannon. For gameplay reasons, troopers will have consistent cosmetic differences to help the player identify their enemy. This does not make it cannon, especially since it’s mostly for multiplayer reasons. This is an issue with more than just BFII here but the short of it is that a Stormtrooper can pick up a minigun and it doesn’t suddenly make him a different trooper, he just has a different gun and maybe a backpack. As for some misc concerns, giving the “loadout” for a lot of the listed divisions was really redundant. For instance, all snow troopers had Ewebs. I’m really not sure why it was mentioned as if it is unique for them. Speaking of snow troopers, much like with the sandtroopers specialized training was mentioned. I think it’s worth mentioning that the snow troopers on hoth and, although I couldn’t find it within the 5 minutes I spent on google, probably the troopers on tatooine are part of Vader’s 501st, meaning much like how in the clone wars show the 501st put on snow armor for pantora’s moon, they were likely normal troopers in different armor.

I would only consider variants are when they have specific changes made e.i magma trooper with the breathing apparatus. also different ranks shouldn't be new types either or this list would be much longer, as each variant has its own ranks with different colours with some exceptions

@@tk-6967 doesn't really make sense, those troopers were deployed temporarily from the star destroyer to search for the droids. The way I think about it is the troopers are told we are going down to a hot sandy place, and therefore the troops choose to bring the big backpack thing and the extra fans in the suit. This is not a whole new division/type of trooper kept on each star destroyer unlike the scout trooper, shore trooper, rocket trooper etc. Those are different units with troops specifically trained to be that unit, not normal storm troopers who got sandy and decided to bring some stuff to help with the heat

Yes, you did miss a couple. There are the Space Trooper or zero-G troopers who are used for spaceship boarding from the vacuum of space and the toxic trooper is used in highly toxic/radioactive environments. I used to have an RPG book that made reference to these, but I can not recall the title. But in reality, the creation of so many specialty-type troopers for singler environments and tasks is very inefficient and highly expensive. Though the Empire excels at this terrible concept, it would be more practical to have a few specialty troopers who have cross-training for specific environments. This video was well-researched, good job.
