Bombsites and Bullet Holes are two inescapable truths of Sarajevo. In this episode we are off in search of the ruins that still stand as monuments to the war. But with such a long way to walk, there's a lot to discover on the way.

I so enjoy the vibe of this channel. You educate yourself on the history and humanity of each and every place you visit, and then bring us along like a very prepared tour guide but also a close friend. I’m not sure how I just go back to work after hearing the history of that statue, but thank you so much for sharing it with me. Please keep posting!! Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Just discovered (and subbed to) your channel and I'm sure I'm gonna watch every episode.. Your camera work and commentary are inspiring to a traveler like myself. The fact that you spend a moment to greet the local animals (and the fact that they, for the most part, seem to like you) adds a lot to your likeability, at least from my animal loving standpoint, and leaves the impression that you're a good man. Keep it up and do be careful as they're some bad people wherever you go. I've just begun to watch so... hopefully you haven't run into such low-life's yet. Good luck in your travels, my friend.

Love it, thank you Matthew. I hope you don't mind me chiming in; the earlier episodes in the countryside, especially the bike trip in the mud, had a slightly perilous air to them. Like it was found footage, after the fact, and that fact seemed like it might not have been good for our protagonist. I guess it was the lack of human activity in the background, but there were a few moments where I genuinely worried that something ominous was going on. To stop waffling, I really enjoyed that as pure entertainment, and was really invested in it. Solo mode = great (?). Looking forward to the next one. Thanks again

So interesting. I remember that war going on, but I wasn't engaged in what was going on as I was just out of high school a couple of years. I remember hearing terrible stories though. It is nice that the city has recovered in some ways. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Hi Matthew, thanks for this awesome video of your walk through the city if Sarajevo Bosnia. Glad that you showed the bombed out areas as well as the better sections. It was sad to see the University building so patched up from the bullet holes. One good thing is all of the windows looked in good shape, as many probably had to be replaced from being shattered with bullets. Glad you walked through that old nursing hold and told the interesting story. It is sad that it never got to be used after all of the efforts and money put into building it. I liked the architecture of the curved windows. That stairway off on the side looked very unique and the concrete seemed to have not fallen apart. It would have been beautiful if kept intact. Hope Bash appreciates the free advertising and good review. It is amazing that places like McDonald's live on under different trade names. Even though unhealthy, it is nice to have a McDonalds from time to time. Matthew, hope you have a Merry Christmas and wishing you a Happy and Healthy 2024. Onwards and Upwards till next time.

Although a work of fiction, the novel The Cellist of Sarajevo is haunting & inspiring. Also, Girl At War left an impression too.

It is based on a real person - Vedran Smailović who did play his cello in the ruins of Vijećnica in 1992.

I was in my early 20's and remember the war, the ethnic and religious cleansing. The mass rape committed during this war. Truly horrific.

It was a horrific event spanning from so many others but Bosnia is an amazing place that has risen from those ashes and for that I am constantly amazed

It's a tombstone 7:33 found over 50,000 of them are in Bosnia its call stećak, also found on mountains weighing several tons, still today it is not known how they moved these tombstone to the mountain, youngest tombstones from the 14th century. We had a different religion at the time, still today you know little about them, most converted to Islam.

Another great one. I have suggested YesLand to many people for a fun but real travel vlog. You are showing history and less visited areas of the cities/countryside. Fake fun and rehashed tourist areas is not appealing to me. I hope next year brings many great adventures for you.
