this is 94. jons voice was still very strong around this time, just listen to the 95 gigs. he made the decision not to sing the high notes on prayer after the slippery when wet tour, for fear of damaging his voice. he still had the range but didn't want to risk burning his voice out again. maybe this was the reasoning behind the accoustic version on prayer, a song he could nail live without the help of a crowd.

Good to hear this again at last! I remember hearing this song for the first time on TOTP and really liking it. I've never liked the album version where for some unfathomable reason, they got rid of Richie's harmony over the bridge and chorus. The album version sucks. This is how it should always have sounded (only with better sound quality!) ;)

@steveC101 i've gotta say i've seen them live twice (2006 & 2008) and both times jon's voice was top notch. I would even go as far as to say it hasn't changed, but I accept his voice can't be as good as it was back then in 95, (especially after cigarettes, alcohol and 26 yrs+ of singing) but its still bloody good. Much better than any of the haters and critics would like to believe
