He's not singing about a person. He's singing about his guitar, and how much it means to him. One of the best ideas and the best tracks ever released by Bon Jovi.

True but there is also a deeper metaphorical meaning. His guitar is his life and it all ties together. He also loves life despite his own cracks and scratches. Beautiful song in every way.

@@sophiesv How can I not understand the song and also understand the song. I think you just want to "stan" this unoriginal song. Jon Bon Jovi has said it is about his guitar and his not wanting to write and since he wrote the song? Then I think he knows better than you.

I was a Bon Jovi fan since I was 12 through high school and always loved them. And now, hearing this at my 40s ,my heart breaks. Jon is the most sensitive, beautiful person and helps so many people. It hurts to see him in pain like this. We're all very sorry Richie left like he did. They were like brothers. This song one of Jon's most beautiful songs.

Lyrics: Another Friday night I'm somewhere A little drunk and worn out from the show It's a hallway to a hotel room The truck's already rolling down the road I find the lights take off my coat I see her there just lying on the bed She's seen me through my yesterdays God knows tonight I'm needing her again She's the place I go When there's nowhere left to run to She's the one I hold When there's no one to hold on to She's been with me late at night When I was drowning in the dark She heard my every word When I was pouring out my heart So I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar She's given me her best When I am at my worst When I can't find the pieces Fingers scratching in the dirt She offers no forgiveness Cause she likes to make it hurt She's the place I go When there's nowhere left to run to She's the one I hold When there's no one to hold on to She's been with me late at night When I was drowning in the dark She heard my every word When I was pouring out my heart So I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar Morning like a freight train Last night still ringing in my head Before today becomes tomorrow Tonight I know I'll do it all again She's the place I go When there's nowhere left to run to She's the one I hold When there's no one to hold on to She's been with me late at night When I was drowning in the dark She heard my every word When I was pouring out my heart So I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar And so I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar

I went to go see bon jovi in Toronto at the beginning of this tour and i still remember (kinda) what he said during the interlude at 3:50. He was saying that "when he was writing this song he was in a very dark spot in his career (obviously pointing to the departure of Richie) he was trying so hard to get back to writing music but his guitar wouldn't allow him to. He tried to speak to "her" but she wasnt saying anything back for about a year and finally after a while "he asked her for permission" and she allowed him and he began falling back in love with the guitar and this beautiful piece came from that! Such a beautiful song! I have been a fan of bon jovi for 15 years and have loved him and his music ever since the lost highway album!

Since I first heard it live, I knew it was going to be a masterpiece. Waited long time to hear the studio version and it didn't let me down. My favorite from the album.

I am not a musician by any means, but this song is so truthful. Music is my retreat when I am hurting or sad. If a song pulls at your heart as much as this one does, it transcends mere sound and becomes something much more spiritual

Another Friday night I'm somewhere A little drunk and worn out from the show It's a hallway to a hotel room The truck's already rolling down the road I find the lights take off my coat I see her there just lying on the bed She's seen me through my yesterdays God knows tonight I'm needing her again She's the place I go When there's nowhere left to run to She's the one I hold When there's no one to hold on to She's been with me late at night When I was drowning in the dark She heard my every word When I was pouring out my heart So I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar She's given me her best When I am at my worst When I can't find the pieces Fingers scratching in the dirt She offers no forgiveness Cause she likes to make it hurt She's the place I go When there's nowhere left to run to She's the one I hold When there's no one to hold on to She's been with me late at night When I was drowning in the dark She heard my every word When I was pouring out my heart So I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar Morning like a freight train Last night still ringing in my head Before today becomes tomorrow Tonight I know I'll do it all again She's the place I go When there's nowhere left to run to She's the one I hold When there's no one to hold on to She's been with me late at night When I was drowning in the dark She heard my every word When I was pouring out my heart So I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar And so I thank my lucky stars For every crack, scratch and scar on this guitar

Thank you John for inspiring us these days! That song makes me breathe more beautiful, maybe one of the best songs you've ever written; I guess this is the second song you dedicated to your guitar, but in a very optimistic state of mind, the bright side of life in a sweet harmony, different from the extremely melancholic features of "My Guitar lies bleeding in my Arms" from "These Days" album on '95
