Love everything about this boat and how well it is all thought out! Picked mine up this week and I am over the moon happy with the build quality and functionality of all these features. Even the little stuff that I had not seen on any other walk through (save this one) was a pleasant surprise. Thanks Luther and Team Bonafide for all the hard work and time put into designing and perfecting this "Utility Kayak", and thanks for this excellent video. Can't wait to see the rest of this series, and what the future holds for Bonafide!

I love this kayak so much I bought 2 of them and they were just shipped yesterday! Now if I could do something about this snow we have in WI! I'm gonna look crazy with an ice breaker mounted on the front of it...This team of people at Bonafide have and will continue to raise the bar all the way through the industry! Can't wait to see what accessories you come up with once you're caught up with the initial production of the SS127s and SS107s. And BIG thank you to Chad Hoover and his youtube channel for turning me on to this kayak!

Hey Matt Kottman, how is this kayak now that you've had it for a few months and the snow has finally melted? Have you experienced anything like David Johnson has (posted above) which prompted him to return his kayak? I've been seriously considering the Sea Ghost 130. Being $700+- less would go a long ways to purchasing accessories.

I suggest to everyone here to demo the kayak simulating all load conditions. We made the mistake of only doing a demo fully weighed down. Boat handled fine, tracked well with me or my wife and another 60 pounds added during the test to simulate worst case scenario, only to find that was the best case scenario. Tracked very well with breezy conditions with the weight (I am 6'2", 200). The boats are super stable, seat height awesome, love the hatches and paddle park. That is where the fun ended. Next day bought two of them and we both agreed to return them the next day. First, the seat is quite uncomfortable. It is too narrow, the side rails press into hip bones, I am not a wide person at all. 2nd, in the low position paddling into the wind, your tailbone sits right on the crossbar of the folded under back legs, bad design. So I thought the seat was awesome, but it was reason 1 to take it back. We did not test it without weight, should have, because it was horrible tracking, horrible. I had to paddle 3 miles in a crosswind all on one side to keep the boat going one direction. Rest for 1/2 a second and the boat spun 90 degrees. Will not do this fully loaded, but we were on a lighter fishing trip without batteries and trolling motor. Sore from that paddle, must have a rudder. Also, upon returning home, set on flat ground the boat rocks front to back like a rocking chair, the stabilizing keel is 4 inches off the ground, so that means you must add tons of weight to the back to get it in the water enough to track straight. Fishing boats do not usually have much if any rocker, especially to the point the back keel is almost out of the water. Then the front is up from adding a ton of weight in the back and you get hull slap splashing sound from under the transducer box. Bad for spooking redfish. Goes away if you stand. Also, while standing you are forward of center, making the boat not track well as the back comes up. Another small thing was the scuppers are right where my heels were. Also, coming from a slow kayak to this one, this one is even slower! Be aware, it takes much effort to move it. That being said, I get it, something has to give in order to get the super awesome stability, I could turn around, walk, etc, and the seat height was the greatest, but unfortunately my wife and I agreed that the uncomfortable seat and horrible tracking unless heavily loaded were deal breakers. A shame though, because it does have so many nice features. **UPDATE** Just wanted to mention that Bona fide called me to talk to me about why we returned our kayaks. I was very impressed with the fact that both gentlemen spent time on the phone with me, nearly an hour with one of their designers, and they took notes on everything and are calling back again to discuss design ideas. They are very interested in customer input and opinions. I mentioned my major concerns, then we went over every detail, and I mentioned that the boat is so nice I would not want to change much, just the major items, and they were super friendly and receptive. I look forward to what they come up with next, and greatly appreciate their time.

First off I love this yac. I started in the RS117 and moved up to the SS127 . Being able to store one piece poles in the hatch area is great . I've been using this yac for 2years now and fish 5-6 days a week on local waters. It's comfortable and I have it equipped with a DYI Minkota 40# TM with a PWM and foot pedal steering. What I would like to see added in the design as far as a safety feature is something that I found would have been very useful in righting this craft after I flipped it ( my fault) in some rollers by leaning too far. Once in the water because the width of the boat I was unable to reach up and over the hull to get a hold of the handle to right the craft. I have watched reentry videos ( Chad Hoover's) that entail a strap and un hooking it from the front of the boat and hooking it to the far side and throwing it back over, then moving around to the other side and then flipping it. Well all that is good under calm water( warm) however under the water conditions I experienced with 2-3 foot rollers this was not something I would have found as a procedure that I wanted to do and luckily I had warm water . Cold water would have made spending that much more time in the water dangerous. Also there is the fact that the longer the yac stays capsized the more water will enter the front hatch area even though fully latched. I have my TM lithium battery located in this area as well. I was able through a few attempts to get a hold of my anchor line and luckily it caught under the seat and didn't come flying out and possibly hit my head. Once inside I was able to paddle safely to shore to remove the 5-6gallons that filled my hold and made it very unsteady on my way to shore. What I would suggest is in the design of the scuppers located in the mid section of the yac that a finger hold be incorporated so that one may either pull oneself on the flipped craft to gain a hold on the handle to right the yac or do so using this added feature. This would eliminate the time one would have to spend in rough and or cold water and cut down on the time that would allow water to enter the yac's hold. Less time in the water would be advantageous in a safe reentry and Bonafide could lead the industry in this innovation. I know it would have made my day a lot more enjoyable and any worries of another flip less worrisome. Please consider adding this feature to all new yacs in the future. As much as the strap system seems to be a Worthy reentry tool it is extremely long considering the conditions that are anything but warm cool water. AKA The Frogman 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🇺🇲🇺🇲

I just bought a used SS127 and am in the process of rigging it for inshore fishing. So far I am very satisfied and excited to get on the water. I have an issue with my kayak that I feel is important for safety and loss prevention. The tab that holds the seat in place is coming loose at the rail that locks the chair into the railing on the left side. The locking tab actually comes completely out of the socket. I looked on the Bonafide website for replacement and did not find that they are available for purchase. Also, the website would not allow me to send an E-mail to determine how to best resolve the issue. I am older than most kayakers and safety is a big issue for me. Could you provide contact information for the purchase of replacement rail(s)? Thank you

We have a lot of customers purchase the SS series and our other kayaks for recreational paddling, fun with the family, or a float down the river. One thing, and a very import aspect, that fishing kayaks have compared to most basic recreational kayaks is a better and more comfortable seat and our kayaks are no different. Our EX123 and RS117 kayaks might be a good fit for you as well.

I have been looking at this kayak for months now (since the icast vids first came out), and really like the features offered on the SS127. I am going to be making a purchase pretty soon, and was just wondering how the stability/standability compares to the Jackson BigRig. The ability to stand for much of the day is very important to me. I am a bigger guy (235 lbs) who does a lot of freshwater flipping and pitching, and some inshore sight fishing.
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
The secondary stability on the SS127 is crazy and it's only 33.5" wide. The seat is one of the highest out there so you are able to sit in a more natural and comfortable position as well. Check out Chad Hoover's channel, and he is very comfortable in the SS127.

Chad does make it look easy. I am considering 4 different kayaks at this point, with the SS127 having the design I prefer the most. I have been out in the BigRig and could stand quite easily. Once the rudder is up in the stowed position you can use the rear handle.

Good point, but might depend on the style of the rudder, as some don't stow in a complete 90º vertical up position, or further onto the rear deck area. Might be beneficial if they would recommend a specific brand that will work.

I will buy a ss127 but want to know if I put a blackpak in it opening bow to stern, what's the biggest yeti hopper I can put behind it. Interested in the 30 but not sure it is small enough. Or the actual dimensions of the tank well would work too but can't find it anywhere
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
If you put 3 rod holder on one side of the YakAttack BlackPak you are able to open the lid bow to stern. The main part of the stern tankwell is 20.5" wide by 20" long and tapers down towards the stern access plate so there is extra room there and behind the seat. This video show a larger Yeti but not a Hopper:kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGmWoJ2Lf5Wcmck.

Very interested in purchasing the SS127, what is the possibility of installing a Minn Kota PowerDrive on the stern??
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
We don't make any mounts for trolling motors, but there are a few companies that might have some options. Bass Yaks makes a plug and play kit that comes with the motor and everything you need.
@hdlstns6 жыл бұрын
There is also a guy on FB- Kevin Dismuke from Fort Worth, TX that is making lightweight aluminum trolling motor mounts for the SS127. I believe his product to be easier on the wallet than other options.

Will boondox landing gear fit the that kayak. Or is yakattack coming out with its own type of setup. Thanks
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
We haven't tested the Boondox Landing Gear yet.
@sailor1446 жыл бұрын
Since this isn't that heavy, I think a Boondox would be an overkill, and would clutter up your aft deck area. Since it has the wide stern, any good wheel setup would work, like the Ctug, which would breakdown easily and fit the front hatch.
@McRips6 жыл бұрын
Is the listed weight of 75lbs with or without the seat? Thanks.
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
75 lbs was the preproducton weight without the seat. The actual production weight of the SS127 is 78 lbs without the seat and has been updated on our website.

Great job on the video, however, you might want to shoot in more light and possibly a lighter (whiter) background. The video is so dark, one has trouble seeing the key features that you are demonstrating

I would put my power rudder/ trolling motor setup on it for shure ,,send me one please

For $1600 might as well get a pedal drive
@tymfortoys5 жыл бұрын
Pedal drives are quite a bit more than 1600.00. Add 1000.00 or more to most kayaks with a pedal drive.
@dusbus23844 жыл бұрын
For 30% more you're in a hobie compass. Yeah that's $500 but why spend $1600 on a paddle kayak when there are so many options for $800-1300 range. Plus some of them like a predator or lure or shearwater can get you on the water today for less than this then be upgraded to a pedal system later. Look at all the other manufacturers. Their paddle boat prices are going way down bc there are starting to be a lot of good quality less expensive options. Spending more Than $1000 on a paddle only kayak that can't be upgraded to pedal is not necessary anymore
@dusbus23844 жыл бұрын
@@tymfortoys not true at all. $300-500 more and you have a ton of pedal options.

Search for on the water paddling reviews of Bonafide Kayaks, they are nearly non existent, most are all promos of showing all the features or show someone sitting in one talking about it,why?

Hey Bonafide Trying to get this kayak out on the Pacific Ocean. I live in San Diego and been following you guys since day one. I think it’s time for me to get the SS127. Any deals for your followers? Should do an awesome giveaway soon....love what you guys bring to the table. #gamechanger
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
The first shipments of SS127 hit the west coast this past week, but we are still working to find a dealer in southern Cal and San Diego. We did save Bonafide Kayak #1 that we are thinking about doing a giveaway for the first one made.

It would have been the perfect kayak for me if I had two rod holders one on each side installed right behind the seat on both sides I know you can buy them aftermarket and install them but I'm not capable and the company was going to buy it from just sells the boats doesn't do any modifications
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
We wanted to give customers options. Salt waters kayak anglers stay away from flush mount rod holder and try and get their reel away from the water to limit salt water exposure. Having track behind the seat we have seen a lot of customers put a YakAttack Omega Pro rod holder on each side for a quick access behind the seat rod holder solution: www.yakattack.us/omega-pro-rod-holder-with-track-mounted-locknload-mounting-system/.

I can't afford it I hope you do a simplified foam version, I bet you would sell a bunch of those, glue in a hard plastic cockpit and bam a super kayak for 200 bucks....i know it's not that simple but I can dream while I save up

I was new to the kayaks and my new friends from Roy's bait and tackle in corpus christi hooked me up with 2 ss127's 9 months ago....i love them but.....lol.... don't get me wrong... fishing in the corpus Christi bay has been awesome..... killed it every time and love the kayaks.....however my girl and I went out to south padre island national seashore.....small surf and the kayaks were difficult to manage through the initial surf.... the front (closed 100%) hatch just drank the surf.....made the boats heavy and we both went over.... they were soooo heavy.... and got filled with water quickly..... so we regrouped. Drained and attempted again and ensured front hatches were closed... same thing... as we cut small 2' waves that rolled over front of the boats, they became heavy and took on water through front hatch..(has to be) . We turned back and boats were half full of water. Are we missing something? They're killers in the bay and we love them...but small surf killed us.... aren't the front hatches supposed to be sealed 100%? Don't get me wrong....i love the kayaks and show off every time but have held back on any padre seashore trips i've been invited to.... let me know if i'm missing something.... i'm still relatively new and certainly don't know it all. Thanks!

When are we gonna see a guy like Chad Hoover test out the stability of this. We're not all 180lbs or less there are some of us 200, 220+ guys that kayak fish too
@justinfloyd57836 жыл бұрын
He’s been using this boat for months now.
@mdbassin9666 жыл бұрын
Yea but only seen him paddle it. We haven't seen a big guy test how stable it is. We keep hearing how stable this boat is but the only people testing it are guys that probably weigh 160 soaking wet
@bonafidefish6 жыл бұрын
We can make that happen. We have some early pictures of Chad pushing the limits of the 2nd prototype about a year ago., but will see if he will do a video.
