Some beautiful footage, I really enjoyed the high altitude portions. I also picked up some new info on the spit from you and appreciate your views. You've made a very strong case for this product and I can see me using it on both my freestyle quad and an fpv wing. The cost associated with this approach makes it pretty much a no brainer when you also take into account the drop in total weight when you eliminate a separate HD cam. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to more of your work. Thanks and cheers ... dave

Good job, it has convinced me on the quality of the hd recording! I ordered mine with the gopro lens, the FOV is smaller so there should be less distortion
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
I didn't even know RunCam was offering it with the GoPro lens, I see it now in the store though. Nice! I may swap this one out later at some point. The distortion isn't a deal breaker for me, but it seems like a cheap fix too, so why not? lol

Another great video Buddy! Thanks I really wanted to see video from it before buying. Just ordered two! The atachment cable looks a little iffy but I am sure with a careful install it should be fine.
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
I think you'll like them! The cable is probably the weakest part of the whole setup. Personally I'd love to see this hardware packaged in a nice aerodynamic case like the Mobius/Runcam2 style cameras, with a removable battery too. Basically update the Runcam 2 with the hardware from the 3/Split. ;)

Good job, Keith, ! .. thanks for the review. Isn't there an option to narrow the field of view a bit to ease some of that distortion ? I guess that would help somewhat, unless I'm mistaken. I should go back and look at your unboxing review of this cam and see. If that's the case, this footage was done with the widest FOV, I assume ?? thanks again !
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
Yes you can set wide, medium, or narrow FOV, this was recorded on the default wide. I like the wide angle, just not the distortion across the frame. It seems to stretch the edges more than the center, if that makes any sense... lol I see RunCam is offering it in the store with a GoPro quality lens now for an extra $3. I'd certainly consider that, and I may swap the lens on this one soon and see how it compares.
@xigxagz7 жыл бұрын
Ya, I saw that optional "GoPro" lens on RunCam's site the other day, and at that time they listed it as having a 160 degree FOV, so I figured that would be better (for me), but now they've changed that and it's now a 165 degree FOV, same as the one that comes with it as standard. So..hmm .. don't know what's going on there. Probably an error that they corrected.

lol The Mini Talon does tend to cover a lot of runway trying to bleed off airspeed when landing.
@alasdair41617 жыл бұрын
Another excellent review, I now have two on order, you've ticked every box especially regarding weight. I'm guessing it was, but did you have it set to full width recording FOV? Maybe Runcam might make an even longer umbilical cable available sometime, especially for us fixed wing users. I also thought after some comments that a small heatsink on the main processor chip may extend it's life when used inside fuse. Anyway thanks for uploading..
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was set to wide for this video. Someone posted in the RunCam Facebook group that the extension cables (with a connector on one end, to add to the length, not replace the cable entirely) for the RunCam HD 2 will work with the Split's cable. I'm going to have to look into that. It would likely need a bit of cooling to run buried down in a fuselage though, as you pointed out. It does get a little warm when running on the bench.

thanks ! another great video with useful information! Are you still using your 45A TRUST ESC ? Are you happy with it...I have one on the shelves and don't know if I could put it safely in my mini talon.
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Trust is still in there, working great. I guess I won't fix it since it's not broken... lol I bought a YEP ESC to go in it, but then read some horror stories about them burning up in flight while I was waiting for it to ship from China. So I decided against changing it out and have been flying the Trust without issue.
@jmp297 жыл бұрын
Great ! My main concern about Trust is more weight than issues now... In another way I would like to try a reverse throttle ESC (exist for heli like hobbywing platinum pro v4 60A) for short landing. It could be fun. My talon is not finished yet, only preparing some 3D part. I love your video review since long time now. It's quality material for anobody who want for example understand vector.

Thanks for review! Is analogue video out 16:9 when using with 5.8g vTX? There are a couple of fpv cams enabling 16:9 av out and you are able to use them with 16:9 monitors without aspect ratio distortion, so I was wonderinf is same thing valid here?
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
This one puts out a 4:3 image, with the sides cut off by default. You can select a 16:9 output, but it shrinks the frame down to fit in the 4:3 frame, adding black space at the top and bottom. In short, you can't squeeze the 16:9 image into a 4:3 frame then stretch it back on a 16:9 display on the ground. ;) I do that with the 16:9 Eagle and like it. I also use my 4:3 cams on the full 16:9 display and the slight distortion doesn't really bother me to be honest.
@gurisler36227 жыл бұрын
bonafidepirate Thanks for the info. Actually I dont like at all any distortion, and 16:9 fpv with 16:9 monitors and non fatshark (except dominator v3) is so much better than any 4:3 to my liking.. I wish we had already affordable HD solutions (did not like connex option at all) so that we wouldn't even discuss this.. At an era with 4k tv and 1440p vr goggles, to me it is really funny to discuss 4:3 fpv.. Funny thing this sensor on Split is 16:9, records 1080p @60 but doesnt have 16:9 fpv just for the sake of supporting fatshark.. Noo this is not right at all, and unless they release a firmware or a new version with wide angle 16:9 fpv I wouldnt touch at all.. Besides, I read so many reviews that even. 4:3 implementation is more pixilated and worse than any old school 4:3 fpv camera. Anyway, thanks again

Hi, what servo do you use for the 360 degree pan? Is it a cont. Rotation servo?Thank you
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
It is a GWS S125-1T sail winch servo. It centers just like a normal servo at center stick. It's relatively big and heavy (standard size servo), but it's a very nice and smooth pan servo.
@DivisionRc7 жыл бұрын
How do you controll your pan and tilt set up? Is it possible with a 7ch radio with a eagle tree vector??
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
I always run my pan/tilt servos directly off the receiver. I have a Dragonlink receiver in here, so I can put PPM out to my flight controller on one pin, and still have standard PWM outputs for servos on other pins.

Nice flying conditions, we are grounded here again....poor weather....i can see the appeal for a (small) Multi Rotor, but for fixed wing?...Isn't it like a cased Runcam....but without the er, case..?...What if it rains, isn't that exposed Mainboard rather vulnerable?
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I guess the board would be more vulnerable being exposed like it is, but as long as it's not really fragile it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Look how long we flew plain old board cameras out in the open... lol A little liquid electrical tape might offer a little protection, but I don't think I'd bother honestly. I personally would like to see some longer cables to go between the sensor and the board, as long as it doesn't cause other problems like more noise emission or something like that. Then we could slap a small heatsink on the processor and put the board inside the fuselage. The long cable included is plenty for that now, but I'd like to have one long enough to work on a pan and tilt and still reach into the fuselage too. lol
@iRoNiiC_H3R07 жыл бұрын
I could get this camera but I need something like a cubic case to cover the board that way I can velcro it on my servo and have 360 view. hopefully when it comes out someone will make a 3d print

Great review:-) I ordered two of them for my Ritewing HC31 and HC48. Does the psu of the Vector FC supply enough amp on 5v to supply the split safely?
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
The Vector is rated for 1A on the 12V supply, and 1A on the 5V supply. I only have the camera running on 5V, the vTX is on the 12V supply. I haven't measured the amp draw for the Split, but the specs say 650mA, so there should be plenty of overhead. I've ran the HD 2 and now the Split on the Vector's 5V supply with no problems so far.

My first of 2 came in today. Im running 5.8 vtx and the split together on a 12v rail. Using a pololu to step down on the cam. Went that route to avoid a rewire. Split says 650ma but that is with the wireless. Without the wireless im sure its lower. My vtx is around 250ma. That puts me at 900ma max. Fired right up with the Eagle tree. First flights in the am...

can to your shate your connection again how do you power the runcam split using the usb connector ?
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
The USB cable included with the camera has two connectors, two wires each. One connector is power and ground, you supply 5V there to power the camera. (It HAS to be 5V, no more, there's no regulator built into the Split like most of RunCam's stand alone flight cams) The other connector is the video signal out, and another ground wire. That's the analog video out to your OSD, vTX, or whatever your normal flight cam wired to now. In my case, I had already rewired a USB cable to have only 3 wires, since the two grounds are the same wire, just spliced inside the USB connector. I also used one servo type connector on the other ends, using power ground and video on the 3 pins, just like I do with all my other FPV cams.
@bonafidepirate7 жыл бұрын
I should also point out, that the Split put also has a 3-pin connector on the board that uses the same cable and connector as all the normal flight cams like the Swift, Owl, etc. You can use that, OR the USB connector to get power into the camera, and video out. I chose to use the USB plug since it was already wired up on the plane for the RunCam HD 2 that I had on there previously. I just unplugged the old cam and plugged in the new one. ;)
