I loved this episode . Adam, a discerning cool head, how right he was . What a gamble he took, however it was a well calculated one . I had always wished Pernell Roberts had not left the series . Even though Bonanza still went on very well without him , many of us missed Adam.

It sure where better with the four original Cartwrights, but I think Hoss would have still died and the dynamics would have been damaged anyway.They were a link and when one was broken it wasn't going to be the same anymore, after Hoss died that was it Ben and Joe couldn't keep it going. The fans got attached to the Cartwrights four of them. Adam had to do what he felt was right for him, I sure wished he'd stayed too.

Pernell Roberts was the series. All the other stuff was usually silly and the same stories over & over with a twist in how one of them wanting marriage, Little oe fighting, shooting 10 times from his six shooter and Ben telling 40 year old men...His "boys...to go to bed.

@@wally1452 Yep agreed. In fact, it was one of the reasons Purnell left the series. He maintained that a father with adult male sons doesn't hand out orders the way Ben did, nor do fully grown adult children obey, the way his three sons did. Thats true, however, in my opinion that's what made the series so successful. Maybe it depicted life as it should be. Ben Cartwright was the supreme patriarch of the family and those kids ultimately deferred to the father's wisdom and guidance in everything. Because at the end of the day it doesn't really matter how old your children are, they are still and always will be your babies, and as a parent you will always want to nurture and protect them. Those three boys honoured their father, and that father never stopped worrying about them. In many ways Bonanza was so much more than just a western. There were plenty of those on television at the time, I'm old enough to remember. None of them had the success that Bonanza had and none of them ran as long . Bonanza to me was about family values, family love and family bonds. The family dynamics in that series was food for thought, ......maybe about how families ought to be a little more like. You may not agree, and this is just my opinion. I appreciated your response, thank you so much for it, have a good day .

@@wally1452 PR definitely was not the series! The show done better without him! He wasn’t as great as try to make him out to be! He gave up millions when he left and didn’t do much after he left but Trapper John years later! Now you take ML, DB, and LG, they used their head for something beside a hat rack! Look how successful Mike were, the man was brilliant! If DB hadn’t of passed I believe he would have been very successful also! I know who the smart ones were!!!

*SOUND PROBLEM REMEDY* *I figured out a while back that when they upload videos with messed up sound or no sound like alot of the ones this person uploaded that if you use headphones or a separate speaker such as plugin speaker or bluetooth speaker that you'll be able to hear it fine. I don't know how or why it works, but that's actually how I'm watching it right now with headphones on.*

Pernell Roberts failed to see the power and the beauty of Bonanza which is legendary. He left the show. He thought he was better, and he went on to other shows which did absolutely nothing for him.

I hope he saw his mistake. Look at Bonanza so many years later and we are still watching. They all must now realise all their mistakes.

Maybe, but he was right about the many lame scripts, and his artistic license steered him directions he preferred, like theater. If he could afford it, more power to him. But I never watch the series seasons after his departure. His personality was a crucial balance to the other characters, and he was the only vestige of intelligence in the show.

@The Strawberry For a theater trained actor that would be understandable. Thespians want to grow, not repeat the same schtick for half a decade. The other cast members, talented as they were, didn't have as much stage background, so their priorities differed. Gotta wonder, though, how he felt Adam would address his father. "Father"? "Dad"? There isn't a long list.
@hannablue7038
@hannablue7038 3 жыл бұрын
@The Strawberry You know why that's silly? Because everyone like Bonanza just the way it was. If someone made me rich and famous, why would I try to change anything. If Adam got married it wouldn't be Bonanza.
@robvangessel3766
@robvangessel3766 3 жыл бұрын
@The Strawberry You know, I read a list of things Pernell suggested to the producers, and I think all of them would have steered the series in cool directions - instead of repeating dumb, tattered plots like another Cartwright getting jailed for something he didn't do. The only thing they were right about was his not wanting the toupee. The piece definitely helped the illusion of being lots younger than Lorne. There are some episodes I like a lot but I'm selective.

Point of the story. Don't let bullies put fear in you. You put fear in the bullies. One of my favorite episodes of Bonanza. The bullies and the King bullies get taken down.

I see, Hoss & Little joe will give in and not hang the killer to save their PA so they can run the territory...Adam takes the right path; he says hang the killer, etc. I often say that Adam is the Bonanza, most of the rest is attempted comedy with Little oe fighting, kissing a girl after knowing her for 2 minutes, then wanting to marry (and never does.) Hoss does a good show rarely but takes a stab at being a clown, making those ack-o-lantern faces. This thing lasted for many years...the cultural America. Give me the episodes where Adam is the lead in them and I do not want the rest.
@wally1452

I wonder how it was made up that Adam would be the mature, brilliant one and Hoss & the simple 13 year old Little oe would be like Ben, i. e. simple also. I am glad they showed up what the two younger brothers really were. They'd let a killer go free to kill again when their "Pa" was in danger.
