I've been using Bond machines since the 1980s. The black cast-on hem is indeed terrible, BUT the rod weight system works fine, all you need is a cast-on rag and a ravel cord and keep the claw weight for the edges and when you're doing short rows and cabling. Several knitters have videos on you-tube showing you how to make cast-on rags - Roberta Rose Kelley and Diane Sullivan are just two of them.

I've seen the videos. I think it's a matter of taste. I don't like the cast on system shown by Bond instructions. Maybe because I am used to Singer and Brother punchcard and electronic machines. But you're right this works for other people. Thanks for the comment and for watching. 🙂
