Hi Dr. Aniket. I Am a student from Indonesia and I am enjoying your lecture. Regarding your last question, I want to give a shoot on that. So, Cobalt has an oxidation state of +3 in both complexes (d6 system for ionic form). (1) complex [Co(Cl6)]3- is expected to be a paramagnetic species with four unpaired electrons (2 electrons in T2g non-bonding, and 2 others in Eg* anti-bonding). Since Cl- is a weak field ligand then it would give small Delta Oct. (10Dq) in the splitting profile and results in high spin configuration (two unpaired electrons would occupy the Eg*). (2) complex [Co(NH3)6]3+ is envisioned to have a diamagnetic property with all electrons paired (including six electrons on the T2g orbitals). This configuration is related to the nature of NH3 which has occasionally robust field ligands in the Cobalt system, even though it is a weak field ligand in the general system.

Hello. Thank you for your nice video. I have a question, how we can draw molecular orbitals for the octahedral compounds like [PbBr6]4-? since it is post-transition metal and the 3d orbitals are already full, so we need to just go one layer upper and consider 4d with higher energy than 4s and 4p?

Sir, Here if t2g orbital has lower energy than eg then why we can't pair electrons in t2g level in fe(cl)6 2- complex? It's confusing..Please explain the concept of pairing energy ..

@dr.aniketpawanoji22422 жыл бұрын
Axial and lateral bonding For example Pz participate in sigma and px and py participate in pi bonding Similarly dz2 and dx2-y2 participate in sigma bonding whereas dxy dyz and dxz participate in pi bonding
