I'm also autistic. Normal human touch (just the brushing of someone's fingers on my skin) can feel like an electric shock to me, so I can only imagine how much a jellyfish sting would hurt. And yeah, definitely. It's less the pain itself and more of the overload of information that comes with it. Sometimes it feels like my pain converts straight into emotional overload. Sometimes I can bear things other people find unbearable. Just depends on how my brain decides to handle it.

As a St John Ambulance NSW First Responder and someone on the Autism Spectrum, this episode was amazing. I am very happy with the way Jasmine handled the situation, and I commend the lifeguards for *_not_* giving the Penthrox to her after doing an assessment - there are many times a pt will need care, but it doesn't have to be physical. Just be with them, and support them. Having a cocktail of mental health issues is an asset to me as an FR, as I can relate with a lot more people on a level that others might not. The topical spray is also a really good treatment option for BB stings! As for the Leo - if a pt stops breathing but is conscious and has a pulse, as long as you have a means of establishing a *_manual_* airway where you can ventilate the patient, that would be my choice. However, I understand that every organisation has different protocols and training, and you did a *fantastic* job regardless. Spinal injuries are so tragic, and I don't know if I'd cope if I sustained one. For someone who's mobility is everything, that's so shit. I am very glad he was at least able to regain independent breathing. Keep up the awesome work legends! Maybe I'll run into you at City2Surf next year!

@@biggtruxautism is a diagnosis that you don't get just from bad parenting. That is really insulting to autistic people and their parents. That young lady's parents took her back to the beach to help her overcome her fears, and bless the lifeguard who talked to her❤ Mum was obviously distressed when her daughter was panicking and overwhelmed, and if she's anything like my son with autism that would be huge. If you don't know what it's like, it's probably best to keep quiet.

Seeing the amount of blue bottle stings they get and how far they have to go to the hot showers, I feel like they need a hot water line to the lifeguard station. A hot water shower stall there would be really handy for the severe reactions that are in too much pain to go across to the promenade!

I’m autistic as well as ADHD and that little girls reaction is not just due to the autism, it’s not purely that matter of fact it’s mostly plain old panic, overreacting, shock, pain and just her body being overwhelmed and her brain beginning to have her shut down and have a meltdown, I used to have them as well it’s a little tic, hopefully she’ll outgrow it and realize that there are worse things that can happen, I’ve been stung by a jellyfish as well and I still enjoy myself at the beach and even swim in the water, this was 2019, I’m still cautious about flags but that incident was a learning experience or me and I’ve taken it as a lesson to me as to always be careful and not run headfirst into things. There’s a saying, ‘Everything happens for a reason’ and I think the reason for that was to teach me that I need to watch myself and be aware of what’s around me, it was scary but some Advil, ice, ice cream, rest and tlc made me feel better and it healed in the end I’m left with nothing, not a mark

@@shellos8 that’s a very dumb conclusion you came to. Jellyfish don’t always be present in huge amounts like in this episode. During the lesser periods would have been a better time to take your baby to the beach. And if you have to give them a dip when they are there, keep a sharp eye out..but to each their own. 👍

We don't know when that happened though. That clip could have been filmed before they knew how bad the situation was.

Every time they use the Frightened Rabbit song on this show I get this sad nostalgic feeling. Not saying it shouldn’t be used, or that it’s disrespectful. I was just a fan on the band, despite it I’m still glad they get their music used. Rip Scott, I wish you were still here to do what you loved and experience life.

It has to be said, hope, and placebo have an unknown amount of and very powerful healing. So if he is asling for protein shakes and saying he will get better, well the worse is you waste $100 and give him hope. The best is that strange power and placebo could help him heal.

When I was 4, I was sitting on the edge of the beach making sand castles when a wave came over me. I remember the feeling like an electrical shock and I woke up with a lifeguard over me. The wave dropped 4 Portuguese Man of War on top of me. I did end up with an overnight hospital stay. 50 years later, I still remember the pain and still have a fear of the beach.

All beaches world wide should have Warnings about neck injuries. Then show a Wheelchair to scare swimmers straight. Jumping into unknown places is very Dangerous period. Most Diving accident victims..DONT GET A SECOND CHANCE.
@ETV-gz8lq
@ETV-gz8lq 11 ай бұрын
While a warning perhaps could help, the wheelchair part is completely unnecessary and honestly quite ableist. Disability shouldn't be used as a threat or viewed as a punishment.
